AISD Instructional Support: Sharing Google Docs With Your Class

Many users quickly learn to share documents via a users email address, but teachers in the Austin ISD Google domain can also very easily share documents with the entire class or single students.

When you are ready to share a document, click the Share button as you normally would in Google Docs. In the 'Add people' box, start typing the name of the person you wish to share the document with.

In the picture above, we typed 'john' and a list of names that contain 'john' automatically populate the share box. It is very important that our users carefully look at the domain after the @ sign before selecting a name.? The subdomain 'stu.austinisd.org' is only for students.? So, johnsmith@austinisd.org would be a teacher while johnsmith@stu.austinisd.org could only be a student.? Before sharing sensitive documents with other teachers, please check the address fully.

Another subdomain that we have is the 'crs.austinisd.org' domain that is reserved for class groups. Students accounts are automatically added into a crs group by the class scheduling system. Teachers do not need to create these group or manage the movement of students between classes or schools.

In this picture, we see that two different addresses have been selected to share this document with.? The first is a class account. These follow the format, ?
CampusCode/Teacher'sE#/Period#@crs.austinisd.org .? Like the other addresses, the crs addresses will autopopulate as you type in this box.

You also have the ability to attach a message with this sharing process.? From this same picture, we see a teacher giving editing rights to an entire class and a specific student.? Students can use the Google 'File- Make a copy' menu to make their own editable copy that they can then save to a collection that the teacher has created for all students in that class.? Collections can be shared in the exact same way as above to help manage student document sharing with the teacher.

How would you use document sharing in your classroom?? Share!

Google+ SDK for Android and iOS is coming, along with a handful of APIs

Google+

Google has made it clear at Google I/O -- they love Google+ and are going full steam ahead with the social platform. We don't blame them, as we think with the right nurturing it can stand out among the rest. What's been sorely missing is options for third party applications to integrate with G+ as the do with Facebook and Twitter. Google has made that one step closer to reality today with the announcement of the upcoming Google+ API for Android and iOS. Based on the platform notes, supported out-of-the-box are Google+ sign-in, a share plug-in to share your app content to the G+ stream,  +1 button integration, Google+ history functions, and a personalization feature, which will allow developers to pull in public G+ content and use it in their app.

It's not exactly perfect, but it's very close to what everyone was asking for. Now we just need to see the SDK and some apps built with it.

Sports ? Japan rhythmic gymnasts put game face on

?

Japan?s rhythmic gymnastics team has been in intense training for the London Olympics, and now they are putting on their war paint to get psyched up to compete on the world?s biggest sporting stage.

?After I put on the makeup, it?s like a switch has been turned on for competing,? Airi Hatakeyama, 17, said at an event opened to media to showcase the team?s makeup art and new uniforms.

?It makes me feel like I?m in performance mode and puts me up to the challenge,? she told Reuters as a makeup artist applied bright red lipstick and eye liner to highlight her features.

Rhythmic gymnastics, a combination of traditional gymnastics and dance in which performers use ribbons, hoops and other apparatus, is well known for the gymnasts? flamboyant costumes and dramatic makeup, similar to in ballet.

The Japanese team aims for its makeup to be visible as far as 15 metres away (about 50 feet), the distance at which the judges sit, and accentuates the corner of the eyes with a ?fairy line? to give the impression of fluttering fairy wings.

Another key is applying liquid foundation and makeup that is resistant to sweat as the gymnasts perform their routines, which require not only grace but extreme flexibility, strength and balance.

London will mark Japan?s third Olympic appearance in rhythmic gymnastics which made its debut in 1984.

Japan has yet to win a medal in the sport and will face tough competition from the likes of Russia, who took gold in the previous three Olympics.

Team captain Kotono Tanaka, 20, who made her Olympic debut in Beijing in 2008, told a news conference she would draw on her experience to help the team prepare in their quest for their first medal.

Japan also has an extra incentive to win for a country that just a year ago was reeling from a massive earthquake and tsunami that devastated its northeast coast and caused the world?s worst nuclear disaster since Chernobyl.

?I?m also from the northeast and my memories of it are really strong,? said Natsuki Fukase, 18, wearing the team?s pink musical-note themed uniform.

?We want to give top performances at the Olympics to bring smiles to Japanese people?s faces and give them energy,? she said.

Thirtysomethings flex their number sense

Insight into quantities maxes out in adulthood and may influence math achievement

Web edition : Monday, June 25th, 2012

Even 6-month-old babies can rapidly estimate approximate numbers of items without counting. But surprisingly, an apparently inborn sense for numbers doesn?t top out until around age 30.

Number sense precision gradually declines after that, generally falling to preteen levels by about age 70, say psychologist Justin Halberda of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and his colleagues. They report the findings, based on Internet testing of more than 10,000 volunteers ages 11 to 85, online the week of June 25 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

?I expected to see some improvement in number sense into preschool or maybe early elementary school, but not up to age 30,? Halberda says.

Evidence of critical mental abilities peaking after young adulthood is rare but has been reported for face memory (SN: 1/1/11, p. 16).

Participants in the new study completed a game that tested the precision of their number sense, or how accurately they could assess quantities. Volunteers saw a series of images showing mixes of blue and yellow dots and judged which color dot was more numerous. Each dot array appeared for a fraction of a second.

In some dot arrays, one color greatly outnumbered the other. In other arrays, one color slightly outnumbered the other.

Test-takers of the same age showed large differences in how accurately they could assess the dots, with the highest average scores coming around age 30, the researchers report. Teens and adults with a robust number sense reported doing moderately better at math in school and on the math portion of the SAT than those with a weak number sense.

Everyday activities, such as quickly deciding which of several supermarket check-out lines is shortest, may strengthen a person?s number sense, Halberda says. His team is devising an action video game containing number-related decisions that will aim to boost children?s number sense precision.

?Training to make numerosity discriminations could improve mathematics learning, whether it turns out that the ability to estimate quantities is the foundation for learning about numbers or just improves math confidence,? says cognitive neuropsychologist Brian Butterworth of University College London.?

Previous research had linked a keen number sense to superior math achievement in elementary school (SN: 9/27/08, p. 10).

Number sense is one of many influences on math performance in school and throughout life, Halberda says. A long-term study of U.S. and British youngsters published online June 14 in Psychological Science finds, for instance, that students who grasp fractions and division in grade school do particularly well in all forms of high school math.

CANBERRA, Australia (AP) ? A crowded boat carrying asylum seekers to Australia capsized Wednesday and 125 survivors and one body were recovered from the Indian Ocean, less than a week after more than 90 people drowned on a similar journey.

An air and sea search was ongoing for as many as 20 people who could still be missing, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority said.

Three merchant ships that responded to the capsizing rescued 125 people, and the authority said one body was recovered. The area is midway between Christmas Island and the main Indonesian island of Java.

The authority said up to 150 men, women and children may have been on the wooden Indonesian fishing boat.

Prime Minister Julian Gillard told Parliament that two Australian warships and an air force aircraft that can drop life rafts on the sea joined the search by late Wednesday.

The area is 200 kilometers (120 miles) north of Australia's Christmas Island and 185 kilometers (115 kilometers) south of Java. The boat capsized in Indonesia's search and rescue zone but Australian authorities had raised the alarm, Australian Maritime Safety Authority spokeswoman Jo Meehan said.

The first merchant ship reached the scene more than four hours later, she said.

Last Thursday, 110 people were rescued when a boat carrying more than 200 mostly Afghan asylum seekers capsized only 24 kilometers (15 miles) from the latest tragedy. Only 17 bodies were recovered.

The survivors' refugee applications were being assessed at Christmas Island, where Australia runs an immigration detention center.

Australia is a common destination for boats carrying asylum seekers from Afghanistan, Iraq, Sri Lanka and other poor or war-torn countries.

Last week's disaster rekindled debate in Parliament on how Australia should deter asylum seekers from risking the hazardous sea journey. The government wants to send new boat arrivals to Malaysia in exchange for accepting U.N.-recognized refugees living there. The opposition won't support the legislation because Malaysia has not signed the Refugee Convention.

How Andrew Garfield Changed 'Spider-Man'

The British actor was instrumental in providing Peter Parker with a skateboard and some much-needed wit in the 'Amazing' reboot.

Among his many powers, Spider-Man has one "Amazing" gift that perhaps you don't already know about: He is a skilled skateboarder.

Andrew Garfield, the British actor filling out Peter Parker's shoes in director Marc Webb's "Amazing Spider-Man," brought many ideas to the superhero reboot's table, including his character's proficiency with a skateboard. Speaking with MTV News, Garfield said that "a lot changed" over the course of shooting "Spider-Man," including his very own idea to have Spidey wield a board at numerous points throughout the movie.

"It was my idea that this iteration of Peter would skateboard, maybe because I skateboarded when I was a kid, and it's something personal to me," the actor said at the "Amazing Spider-Man" press junket. "It linked in so nicely with being able to activate the powers in a new way."

Garfield teamed up with director Spike Jonze's Girl and Chocolate Skateboards and persuaded the powers that be to include scenes of Peter messing around with skateboards, adding some levity to an otherwise "heavy" script.

"What's always been important about Spider-Man to me is the lightness, the humor and the enjoyment of a teenage kid getting these powers. In reality, what would happen?" he said. "We pitched the idea to [the Spider-Man producers] and they shot it. I thought that was awesome."

Another scene that changed due to Garfield's input: the infamous carjacking sequence that sees Peter in full Spidey regalia for the first time, webbing up and taunting a criminal with lots of laughs and very little restraint.

"That was important to me, in terms of the humor, the wit, finding the power of anonymity," he said. "That was a fun night, because it was all improvised and free. There was nothing scripted about that. That was awesome."

Overall, Garfield found the entirety of "Spider-Man" to be "a forever evolving process," thanks in large to Webb's place at the head of the film.

"It was all changing," said the actor. "Marc set up an environment where we could play, and that was really, really nice."

Dallas Roofing Company More Details about Dallas Roofing Company here.

Fort Worth and Dallas roofers are there for their clients to give them service and professional advice. They help to put a roof over their clients' heads by providing affordable roofing solutions. Composition roofing is transforming the residential architecture of Dallas. A Dallas roofing company introduced it to satisfy their niche clients and ever since it has been all the rave. The composition roofing material is purely synthetic developed to last from 10 to 20 years. It is quite a good deal with low unit cost and fast installation on different types of truss. A wide variety is offered with different colors, sizes and finishes. Roofing companies Dallas will advice on the best roofing solutions that will fit the intended purpose. For general purpose, the normal grade fiberglass composition finish is used. For projects whereby conservation is important, organic compositions are used. They will completely decompose then finally disposed but have the advantage of being durable since they are heavier and have more asphalt.

Roofing companies Dallas can quickly deploy a composition roof and this contributes to further cost savings. Some of the roofing Dallas compositions are simply nailed on to existing roofs. The compositions find application in any residential home or shed. Their lifespan is about 10 to 20 years because they are not heat resistant. More aesthetic solution is found in the laminate kind of roofing which has nice contours. These are sourced by Dallas roofers from manufacturers who create the laminate finish at an extra cost compared with the randomized fiberglass. The laminates are used for projects in which the visuals are important.

Roofing Fort Worth and roofing Dallas TX have another trick up their sleeve. They use the high impact composite roofing to guard against hail. The special finishing that builds resistance to impact may cost more but brings huge savings to the home policy. Up to thirty percent can be saved in home insurance from the fact that damage from storms will be mitigated. The roof companies integrated impact IV resistance from the inherent properties of fiberglass. To counter the poor thermal properties, the roof can be laid in conjunction with thermoblok. This results in savings of over 30 percent in home energy usage. That is a fantastic curtailing of running costs.

No wonder compositions are catching on in roofing companies Dallas. Having the organic composition with energy savings makes for a very green house which would make any home owner proud. Inorganic composites have a bad reputation because they take up to fifty years to decompose. Most of the compositions are recyclable and are probably already made from recycled materials. There are different styles and colors that can go with the house being roofed.

There are innovative solutions for roofing Dallas and roofing Fort Worth that present a desirable architectural finish. These are laminate compositions that are a higher grade and have gone through further production processes. In particular an additional layer of asphalt finishing is added. Impact resistance can also be catered for in areas where the roofing faces the brunt of hail and strong gales. As a measure to control house temperature, additional thermal protection is added to the roofing.

Summer jobs: Four tips for beating teen unemployment and boredom

Summer jobs can be hard for teens to find. Record high unemployment rates for teenagers means they should be creative in making their own jobs or volunteer opportunities by looking around the neighborhood. These four tips will give them a jump start.

By Jennifer Powell-Lunder and Barbara Greenberg,?Guest bloggers / June 25, 2012

Summer jobs for teenagers are on the decline again this year. Teens will need to hit the neighborhood pavement to see what needs to be done. Creating their own job (like mowing lawns or babysitting) is one tip for beating the teen unemployment slump.

Experts predict that the teen unemployment rate this summer will reach a record high for the third consecutive year. This situation can cause undue stress on teens and their families. Many teens rely on this source of summer income to cover both recreational costs throughout the year and to save for college.

Parents rely not only on the monetary gains for their teens, but also on the structure, predictability and stability a regular summer job ensures.?Many teens find themselves loafing around the house with little to do except sleep, eat, play video games, or spend endless hours on social networking websites.?The boredom can lead to strain between parents and teens. Parents want their kids to be productive; teens are frustrated with their lack of success in securing a job. Both parents and their teens can become annoyed and irritable with each other and the situation in general.

While the situation may seem dire, there are some strategies parents and teens can implement to stave off the boredom and create structure. While there is no guarantee that your teen will walk away with a job, isn?t it at least worth a try?

1. Call around to create a job. Your local neighborhood is the best place to conjure up employment. Teens should let friends and neighbors know they are available to do odd jobs. Parents can help to spread the word by talking to friends, co-workers, neighbors and family members.

2. Keen observation can lead to a job situation. A quick walk around the neighborhood could result in an employment opportunity for your teen. Does the neighbor?s lawn need mowing? Are the shrubs overgrown? Do the neighborhood kids seem bored? Do their parents seem overwhelmed? ?Could an elderly neighbor use some help running errands? By offering to take over at the right price your teen can create a job where none previously existed.

3. Look into volunteer opportunities. Boredom can easily result in feeling depressed, anxious and isolated. Volunteer work result in feelings of pride and joy. Many organizations offer formal volunteer programs.

4. Create a volunteer position. Help your teen find a volunteer position by suggesting that he offer to work for free at an organization or business. If for example, she enjoys gardening, offering to help out at a local nursery will provide her with a great experience. Perhaps he wants to become a disc jockey or news reporter. Contacting local stations, including public access or local cable channels, may provide him with a priceless experience. Is she an aspiring designer? Does he want to be an architect? Your teen should identify and approach local firms and offer to work for free. If your teen loves animals, have him head to the local veterinary office, animal shelter or farm. They may just welcome a helping hand. It?s possible that their volunteer work may translate into a paid position. At minimum, the experience will offer structure and satisfaction in addition to experience they need for future jobs.

The current employment market certainly offers no easy answers but with a little ingenuity, your teen may just able to create a stable summer situation for him where none previously existed.

East Coast faces faster sea level rise

Cities from North Carolina to Massachusetts see waters rising more rapidly

Web edition : 4:14 pm

Property values aren?t all that?s been rising in Manhattan. The height of the water lapping up against the Big Apple and many East Coast cities has been creeping up faster in recent decades.

?We have direct evidence of a hot spot stretching from Cape Hatteras in North Carolina to just above Boston,? says Asbury Sallenger Jr., an oceanographer at the U.S. Geological Survey?s St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center in Florida. ?The area has an unusual sea level rise acceleration compared to the rest of the United States.?

Global warming could be driving the acceleration, researchers report online June 24 in Nature Climate Change. With temperatures still climbing, further ocean rises could increase the risk of flooding, encroach on wetlands and give hurricane storm surges extra punch.

Climate change has, on average, raised the surface of the world?s oceans in recent decades by melting glaciers and causing seawater to expand as it warms. But the rise hasn?t been uniform, like water filling a bathtub. It has happened at different speeds in different places, thanks to wind patterns, currents and other regional factors that shape ocean surfaces.

Sallenger and colleagues studied the situation on the East Coast using 60 years of data collected by sensors floating in the Atlantic Ocean. From 1980 to 2009, sea levels along about 1,000 kilometers of coast rose faster than from 1950 to 1979 ? a gain in speed of about 2 millimeters per year, or about three to four times the average global acceleration.

If this acceleration continues at its current rate, New York City would be on track for up to 29 centimeters of sea level rise by 2100. That?s in line with previous predictions from a simulation based on probable climate change scenarios.

Long-term climate trends may have created this hot spot by changing ocean currents, says Sallenger. With the atmosphere heating, parts of the North Atlantic have warmed and freshened. Computer simulations suggest the decreasing density of these waters could weaken the powerful Gulf Stream and North Atlantic Current, which keep water away from the East Coast.

But don?t sell your beachfront property quite yet. This theory lacks the support of actual measurements that show a waning of ocean circulation. Some scientists credit the sea level speedup to weather patterns that could soon reverse.

The recent trend may reflect fluctuations in pressure or temperature that oscillate over decades, says James Houston, director emeritus of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers? Engineer Research and Development Center in Vicksburg, Miss. Sea levels along the East Coast fell before 1960, he says, and may very well do so again.

?If the paper would have been written in 1960 ? it would probably have concluded that there was a cold spot,? says Houston. ?We may be back to a cold spot from 2010 to 2039.?

Meet Julia Polloreno: Editor in Chief of Triathlete ... - Tri Fatherhood

Dear Izzy, Max, and Kate,

I want to introduce you to some awesome Moms and Dads as I write these letters to you. I?m doing my best to balance being a husband to your mom, a good dad to you kids, and an athlete, but there are some amazing people in the world who are doing these things too. I think it?s important for you to meet them.

I remember seeing my first copy of Triathlete magazine about 11 years ago. A friend who was doing triathlons brought it to work. Macca was on the cover and the article was about the ITUs fastest short course triathlete making the move to Ironman. It was a big deal and I was taken by both Macca?s brashness and the magazine itself. I subscribed immediately.

Fast forward 11 years and through countless triathlons and I found myself in a position to interview the Magazine?s Editor in Chief. You never know where life is going to take you, kids.

As the Editor in Chief of Triathlete Magazine Julia Polloreno shapes what most triathletes know about their chosen sport. She introduces the world to the latest trends in training and racing, the biggest stars in the sport, and the newest gadgets on the market. It?s a big responsibility, communicating the latest news to the worlds fastest growing sport, but one that thousands would consider a dream job.

Being the Editor in Chief of the largest triathlon publication was a natural progression for the Stanford graduate (communications/history), as it combined two of her passions, multisport and the publishing business. Before taking the helm at Triathlete, Julia served for 5 years as a senior editor at San Diego magazine.

Julia is not only accomplished in the publishing world and on the race course, but she?s also a mother of two. And that?s why I?m introducing her to you. It?s important to meet people pursuing their passions while also being? great parents.

Enjoy my conversation with Julia Polloreno:

You have what a lot of Triathletes would consider a dream job. What?s
it like?

Julia: It?s true: jobs don?t get much dreamier, especially if you like
triathlon. It?s a balancing act of interviewing, writing, editing,
planning, traveling for races and cover shoots and sitting in meetings
(lots of them). One aspect that I?ve really enjoyed is getting to know
some of the pros, who truly are the most gracious and grounded in all of
sport.

You have an interesting story about meeting? your husband, Lance. How did you meet?

Julia: in transition at the 2006 Ironman Arizona. That year bikes were racked
according to your city, and we were both living in Encinitas, just north
of San Diego, so our bikes were right next to one another. I remember
seeing his top of the line carbon Kuota with a disc wheel hanging next to
my bright orange Cannondale clunker with balding tires and thinking I was
way in over my head! We started chatting while getting into our wetsuits
and then said hello a couple times during the race. He finished, oh,
about 4 hours before I did, but he looked me up online when we both got
home and we started meeting up to do some workouts. We were both pretty
stoked on the triathlon lifestyle.

How long have you been married now?

Julia: We?ll be celebrating our five-year anniversary in November.

What part does he play in your success as an athlete and a working
professional?

Julia: Lance has been instrumental and is my biggest supporter. He understands
that I need to balance different demands (being a mom, athlete, working
person) in order to be fulfilled, and he shares a similar ethic. He?s
definitely my loudest cheerleader on the race course and in life. With
him, there?s just an assumption that we can balance everything and make
it all work. It?s just a matter or forging ahead.

?The time commitment it takes to excel in triathlon is often a source
of stress for a lot of couples. How do you two deal with the time
commitment and discipline it requires to both compete?

Julia: You often hear about failed marriages being the casualty
of being a triathlete. But I think that as long as you set realistic
goals?we won?t both train for an Ironman at the same time?and you take
turns supporting the other?s racing/life goals, you?re less likely to
have conflict. Or if your partner isn?t a triathlete, not getting too
myopic and assuming they are happy being your race sherpa every weekend. It?s
dangerously easy to get so consumed in this sport, it?s good and healthy
to periodically stand back, look at your priorities and honestly evaluate
if you?re keeping things in check.

Lance and I both want to race well, but at the end of the day neither of
us is turning pro, so we try to just keep it all in perspective. For us,
training has always been an opportunity to ride our bikes together or
meet up for a trail run on our lunch break?it?s a social thing that
helps us stay connected.

Do the two of you find time for just the two of you?

Julia: Thankfully we have a fantastic babysitter and family nearby, so yeah we
have the periodic date night. And recently we rode our bikes down the CA
coastline for three days. We love training adventures like that.

Tell us about your kids.

?Julia: Ethan is 4, Chloe is 1. Four months after Ethan was born I was on the
startline of a half ironman. Ditto for my second child. Getting back into
shape was a priority, but my motivation was mostly driven by a desire to
reclaim an important part of my identity?the triathlete?that I had
shelved for the length of my pregnancy. I feel most connected with the
truest sense of myself when I?m pushing through a good SBR effort. Everything is kind of
stripped away, and it?s just you?the good, the bad and yes, sometimes
the ugly.

As for the kids in sports, the training wheels are about to come off
Ethan?s Specialized.

What measures do you take to keep family time your top priority amid
all of the training and travel?

Julia: We invested in good jog strollers and try to incorporate the kids in
training whenever possible. I also maximize early morning quiet time for
training. I?ll get in a trainer workout before the kids wake up and then
swim or run in the lunch hour.

?I?m sure you travel alot not only for races, but to cover races.
Does your family travel with you to races?

Julia: It depends on the race. For Kona, I?ll go solo because there?s not a lot
of downtime. But each year we all go to Maui for the Xterra World
Championships and I juggle work with family beach time and my husband
races. It definitely has its challenges, but we just roll with it and
make it work. It would be a lot easier to stay home every weekend but
that?s not really an option in a household with two triathletes prone to
wanderlust.

This is the travel life of a tri-parent

Is that stressful or has your family learned to enjoy the journey?

Julia: Philosophically I?d like to say we always enjoy the journey, but the
reality is that sometimes your kid throws a tantrum on an airplane. Or
the family is out sightseeing while you?re feverishly transcribing an
interview in the hotel room. But we realize our lifestyle?and me getting
to have a job so nicely aligned with that lifestyle?is a privilege and a
blessing. So no complaints here.

Whats the strangest/coolest thing you?ve experienced covering
triathlon across the globe?

Julia: One cool on-the-road memory will always be following Lance Armstrong?s
return to triathlon at his first race back at the XTERRA USA Championship
race in Ogden, Utah last year. I remember sitting on the back of an ATV
driven by Jimmy Riccitello as we bombed around the backside of a ski
resort waiting to get race splits and thinking, ?This is my job??

?What?s your personal favorite location on the triathlon circuit?

Julia: It?s gotta be Maui, where we go each year for the XTERRA World
championship and family vacation.

?Away from triathlon what does your family do for fun?

Julia: You?ll find us at the beach most weekends, or just lazing around enjoying
the downtime we do have.

?What is your athletic background before triathlon?

Julia: I swam as a kid and was really into tennis in high school, then just a
recreational runner through college and after.

Julia on the race course herself

What life lessons do you hope your kids take away from your
experience as Editor in Chief of Triathlete?

Julia: Being a full-time working mom doesn?t come without it?s share of guilt,
which is something I still struggle with a little. But I hope that by
example my kids eventually understand the value of a strong work ethic. I
believe that having a rewarding professional life makes me a happier, more
gratified person and thus a better mom.

?What do you hope your kids will remember about their childhood?

Julia: Simple, everyday moments of just being together and feeling loved.

?Favorite ?family movie??

Julia: Right now, it?s Tin Tin.

Triathlete Magazine Editor at Large Holly Bennett, Chrissie Wellington, and Julia

?Your kids favorite race destination?

Julia: Maui?for obvious reasons.

What is your typical prerace meal? Junk food indulgence?

Julia: The go-to is oatmeal (which like most people I choke down race morning),
as much coffee as I can stomach, and toast with peanut butter.

If you weren?t Editor in Chief of Triathlete what would you be
doing?

Julia: A travel writer or entrepreneur. And as long as we?re daydreaming, a pro
triathlete.

Julia and Linsey Corbin

Favorite musical artist?

Julia: Ben Harper

?Favorite sports team?

Julia: Does my triathlon team, SOAS, count? They should?fast, dynamic and
accomplished? women on and off the course.

Julia and Mirinda Carfrae

Final word of advice for average age groupers with limited time who
are juggling family, triathlon, and a full time job?what?s the most
important thing that we do to progress as triathletes without taking away from our
families?

Julia: Invest in two things: a good coffee maker for early mornings so you can
squeeze in pre-work sessions and a jog stroller to incorporate the kids a
little in training. Pushing a jog stroller is actually a great way to
build run strength. Us working parents need all the secret weapons we can
get.
