Create An Unique Living Space With These Great Ideas | Find New ...

If you are a handy man, then you can do a lot of work on your home on your own. One of the easiest and most rewarding projects that you can do yourself is to add a deck made of wood to your back entrance for events.

If you find the home improvements you want to make overwhelming, only do one at a time. This can help you to finance the project yourself by allowing you time to amass some savings and can make the situation a lot less stressful. Take your time and enjoy your home as each upgrade is completed.

For the budget-minded homeowner working on a plumbing home improvement project, plastic PVC piping makes an entirely suitable substitute for expensive copper piping. PVC has been extensively tested and used for years without danger or failure. It is easy to work with and highly durable. The money saved by using PVC can be applied to more visible, usable home improvements.

If you are looking to spruce up the exterior of your house, first think about the last time the exterior of your home was painted. Consider repainting or resurfacing the walls to give your home a fresh look. Also remember to take the time to patch, repair, or replace any damaged areas as well.

Be flexible with your time. While you may expect a project to be done in a few weeks, you may need to plan in advance for it to take a bit longer. Life can sometimes get in the way of project completion, so spare yourself from disappointment, by giving a little leeway.

Use paint made for touching up appliances to cover up flaws on ceramic tile. Did you chip one of your tiles moving furniture? This type of paint will make it look almost as good as new. It dries hard with a glossy color that is hardly distinguishable from the surface of the tile itself.

Need to improve the walls in your home? Apply joint compound in relatively thin coats, and sand each spot so that it?s level with the wall after dries. This works for patching nail holes as well as fixing cracks in your walls. If you are not priming the walls before painting them, apply some of the new paint over the patched spots before rolling the color onto the walls. The patched areas may absorb more paint, so giving them an extra layer at the beginning will help to ensure an even look.

Do not panic if you scuff the corner of a wooden piece of furniture, trim or cabinetry. Instead, grab your iron and a damp napkin. Wet the damaged corner lightly, then apply the heated iron to restore the finished color and grain of the wood to the area that was scratched.

If you have chosen to replace your roof with a metal one and need a vent there are different types that you can use. For each type of roof type you will need to choose the one that will be the most efficient for you. Do your research and choose wisely.

Think you need to re-tile your bathroom? Try cleaning the tile and re-grouting first. Using this method can save you time and money over a complete re-tile project. It?s also easier to achieve by yourself. A toothbrush is a wonderful tool to use when cleaning grout. A quality steam mop can make a huge difference as well.

No matter what your budget, there are plenty of ways to get a better-looking home. Keep these tips in mind the next time you look around your house. You should easily be able to find a do-it-yourself project that will make your home feel like new again.

To ensure the best quality springfield mo home builders you?ll want to take your time and choose the best company for you.

Maine Launches First Commercial Tidal Energy Project

Newsbrief from Environmental Building News

A construction worker readies a turbine for placement in ORPC's tidal energy generator in Eastport, Maine.

By Erin Weaver A project in Eastport, Maine, will soon become the first commercial tidal power plant in the U.S. Three of the state?s electric utilities have 20-year contracts with the Ocean Renewable Power Company (ORPC) to purchase electricity generated by the Cobscook Bay project at an inlet of the Bay of Fundy. ORPC will operate five cross-flow turbines on the floor of Cobscook Bay, where they will generate energy from both ebb and flood tides. The devices will operate safely below passing ships, and according to ORPC, tests indicate that marine life should have no safety issues with their blunt, slow-moving blades. The first turbine will soon begin operation; four additional turbines will be installed over the following year, at which point the project should power up to 100 area homes. ORPC then hopes to expand to nearby locations for an overall capacity of 4 MW powering more than 1,000 homes and businesses. The U.S. Department of Energy invested $10 million in the project, which has created at least 50 jobs for local workers and manufacturing work around New England: the turbines were made in Rhode Island and the generator in Massachusetts.

Libyans surrender weapons to military authorities

Hundreds of weapons held by former Libyan rebels who fought the security forces of the late Libyan strongman Muammar Gaddafi have been turned over to military authorities in response to a call by government in the wake of violent incidents in Bhengazi.
The earlier call by military authorities for civilians to surrender their arms after the fall of Gaddafi did not result in massive turnover until after the violent incident in Benghazi which killed the American ambassador and three of the US Embassy staff.

According to Army Col. Omran al-Warfali, hundreds came early for the turn over of their weapons to the authorities.

"Hundreds of citizens came since the early hours of this morning to handover their weapons from all segments of society, men and youth, women, and even children came to hand over bullets they found it in the streets," he told AP.

In the same AP report, "Moussa Omr, a former fighter who lives on the outskirts of Benghazi and who fought against Gadhafi, said it was time to turn over his weapon to the state."

"When I saw the announcement on television I came to Benghazi with my wife and son to hand over my weapon to the national army because I want to move from the stage of the revolution to state building," he said. "I trust the national army. They have been with us on the frontline and I know them one by one. I don't need this weapon after today, the militias have been expelled from Benghazi and the national army will protect us."

Libya's new government has been struggling to fight criminality as private armed groups continue to patrol the streets but often take the law into their own hands.

Estimates reveal there are at least 200,000 private citizens in Libya who are armed and government has been trying to entice them to surrender their weapons.

Members of the armed groups were offered jobs and money in exchange for their weapons but few have responded to the call by Libya's new leaders.

But recent developments have shown that armed groups have realized the pressing need for lasting peace in their communities.

Some armed group members have offered to join the military under the new regime after surrendering their weapons.

"Saad Bakar, head of a small brigade in Benghazi, handed over rifles and ammunition on Saturday, saying he was ready to disband his group," Reuters wrote.

"We were waiting until today to make sure that the weapons go to the right place," he said. "We want to join the army as individuals."

The organizers of the weapons collection initiative said the campaign will continue in key cities in order to further entice the armed groups to hand over their weapons, they plan to raffle off prizes to include cars at the end of weapons collection day.

How to replace a cracked screen on an iPhone 5

How to DIY replace a cracked screen on an iPhone 5

Between our news coverage leading up to the iPhone 5, our and definitive review of the iPhone 5 following its release, there's only one thing left to do -- open it up and show you what the iPhone 5 looks like on the inside!

That's right, iMore has teamed up with Pod Drop to show you how to take apart a brand new iPhone 5, and even replace a cracked or broken screen if you're somehow not covered by AppleCare or warranty, now or in the future.

Sacrificing an iPhone 5 for science

Fortunately, none of us were clumsy enough to break our iPhones by accident (yet!). Unfortunately, that means in order to show you how the DIY repair is done, we had to break on on purpose. We captured the moment. (Purely for science, of course.)

Disclaimer: As with any repair, neither iMore nor The Pod Drop can be held responsible for any damage you may do to your device. It?s also worth considering that opening up your device to perform any repair or modification can and will void your Apple warranty. If you don?t feel comfortable opening your device, don?t. Use extreme care and caution when performing a repair on any device.

What you need to DIY replace a cracked screen on an iPhone 5

 • iPhone 5 with a cracked display (Any model)
 • iPhone 5 LCD & digitizer replacement - Coming soon!
 • Suction cup - Buy now
 • 5-point pentalobular (security) screwdriver - Buy now
 • Standard #00 Phillips screwdriver - Buy now
 • Spudger tool - Buy now
 • Razor blade - Buy now (You can also use any straight edge razor blade you pick up at your local hardware store.)

Video walkthrough

Our video will walk you through disassembly to reassembly. Even though it's possible to perform this repair using only the video, we highly suggest reading the written walkthrough and viewing the high quality images below. Both guides are meant to compliment each other so we suggest reading and watching both before actually performing the repair.

Power off your iPhone 5

Before performing any repair, you should always turn your iPhone completely off by holding down the Power Button and using the Slide to power off feature. Once the iPhone has completely turned off, you can move on to the next step.

Remove the two security screws in the dock connector

There are two security screws on either side of the Lightning connector port. Use your security screwdriver to remove them.

Remove the damaged display

There are two methods for removing the display. If you've cracked the bottom pretty badly you may find it hard to get a seal with a suction cup. We'll walk you through both ways of removing the display.

Suction cup method

This is the method we recommend and the one you should use if you can get a seal. If not, use the straight edge razor method below.

 1. Position your suction cup firmly above the Home button.
 2. Gently pull upwards while holding the phone down with your other hand.
 3. The display is in there pretty good so you'll have to apply quite a bit of strength to pull it out. Just make sure you keep your hand over the top of the iPhone as you don't want to completely pull the display off. There are still cables attached underneath.
 4. Once the display has dislodged from the device, swing it upwards to expose the cables connecting it underneath.
 5. Move on to the next section.

Straight edge razor blade method

If the bottom of your iPhone 5 screen has shattered badly, it'll be next to impossible to get a good enough seal to pry it up. You'll need a straight edged razor blade for this method. Be careful and work slowly not only so you don't damage the iPhone but more importantly, so you don't cut or hurt yourself.

 1. Start at either side of the Home button and carefully work the razor blade between the frame and the glass.
 2. Slowly pry upwards until you get an edge freed enough that you can slip a pry tool or spudger in between.
 3. Now set the razor blade aside and continue to work around the bottom and bottom edges until you free the display from the frame.
 4. Do not pull it straight upwards but instead, swing it upwards as there are still cables attached at the top we need to remove.

Remove the iPhone 5 display panel

 1. There's a silver shield covering the LCD and digitizer cables. Remove the three screws holding the shield in place with your #00 Phillips screwdriver.
 2. Gently lift the shield out of the iPhone 5.
 3. Now you have a clear view of the cables holding the display assembly to the logic board. Use your spudger or pry tool to carefully pry all three cables from the logic board.

You can now lift the front digitizer and LCD assembly off the device.

Ready the new iPhone 5 display

Odds are your new replacement display will come stripped down to nothing but the display assembly. We'll need to remove some pieces off the old cracked display to place on the new display before laying the new assembly in place.

Remove the display shield, earpiece shield, and earpiece assembly

 1. There are a total of eight screws holding the display and earpiece shield in place. They are outlined in the picture below. Remove all eight screws using your #00 Phillips screwdriver.
 2. Now use your pry tool or spudger to carefully lift up the display shield off the back of the display. The best way is to slip your pry tool beneath the shield at the bottom on either side of the Home button. The shield will easily lift off.
 3. Now remove the earpiece shield at the top by lifting it off and setting it aside.
 4. The actual earpiece assembly sits directly below the shield and will easily lift off as well. Set it aside.

Remove the front-facing camera and sensor cable

 1. The front-facing camera and sensor cable sits to the left of where the earpiece assembly was and lines the top of the device. We need to remove it.
 2. Carefully lift it up but notice the kink in the cable underneath the front-facing camera. The noise canceling mic is pushed into the display assembly. Pop it out carefully.
 3. The rest of the cable is only held in with a tiny bit of adhesive. Carefully peel it back to finish removing the cable from the display assembly.

Remove the Home button assembly

 1. Remove the two screws on either side of the Home button assembly using your #00 Phillips screwdriver.
 2. Start lifting the Home button shield starting on the left side but don't pull completely up yet.
 3. On the right hand side you'll see a contact that's stuck to the display assembly that runs on the Home button shield. Use your finger or pry tool to carefully break the adhesive.
 4. Set the Home button shield aside.
 5. Now we've just got to remove the actual Home button. Simply push the Home button up from the front of the assembly and use your pry tool or a metal spatula to loosen the gasket on the back side. The Home button should come free pretty easily.

Transfer the removed components to the new iPhone 5 display assembly

Now that we've removed everything from the old assembly, we can transfer it to the new, unbroken assembly. In order to do this, just follow the above directions in reverse order or refer to our video where we'll walk you through readying the new assembly.

Once you've finished readying the new assembly, continue on.

Replace the iPhone 5 display assembly

 1. Start by securing the three cables back to the logic board.
 2. Replace the logic board shield cover over the cables and secure it with the three screws we originally removed using your #00 Phillips screwdriver.
 3. There are plastic clips that run along the top of the display assembly like you can see below. These need to sit underneath the inside of the frame.
 4. Starting from the top make sure you slide the clips in place and carefully work your way around the edges of the display applying even pressure to snap the display into place.

Replace the dock connector screws

Use your security screwdriver to replace the two screws on either side of the Lightning connector port.

And ...done!

Now that you've finished reassembling your iPhone 5 you can go ahead and turn it back on by pressing and holding down the power button until you see the Apple logo.

If all went well, your iPhone should boot up just fine. Make sure to test the new replacement for dead spots and check the display quality to make sure there are no dead pixels or discoloration. Since you did have to transfer components that control brightness, sound, and the proximity sensor - it's always a good idea to test those functions too so you know you transferred all the components over correctly.

Thanks again to The Pod Drop for all their help. If you don't feel comfortable repairing your own iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, check them out. There are many reputable repair shops that can do it for you, and many times, even offer you a warranty on the repair for far cheaper than what a replacement iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch would cost.

Want to know how to perform another type of iPhone repair or modification? Send me suggestions to <ally@imore.com]

Celebrate World Vegetarian Day October 1 | Care2 Healthy Living

By Dana Shultz for Diets in Reviews

Vegetarians and those interested in a meat-free diet will have some common ground to stand on this Monday.? October 1 marks World Vegetarian Day, an event founded by the North American Vegetarian Society (NAVS) to raise support and awareness for a vegetarian lifestyle.

The North American Vegetarian Society is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1974. According to their website, the organization has two focuses: To provide a support network for its members, affiliated groups and those who follow a vegetarian diet; and to inform the general public about the benefits vegetarianism provides to ?humans, animals and the Earth.

The group seeks to carry out these goals through various means, including a quarterly magazine, spreading their message via a growing body of publications, holding conferences, and providing resources and information to the media and other organizations that may take interest.

World Vegetarian Day was founded in 1977 and received official endorsement by the International Vegetarian Union in 1978. October 1 may be World Vegetarian Day, but it kicks off Vegetarian Awareness Month, which seeks to create ?a better world because vegetarian diets have proven health benefits, save animals? lives and help preserve the Earth.?

There are numerous ways to get involved in World Vegetarian Day this Monday, including displaying a free poster provided by NAVS in your community and, of course, eating vegetarian. There is also an opportunity for non-vegetarian eaters to win up to $1,000 if they pledge to go meat free in October. Pledging information is available on the World Vegetarian Day website.

In addition to founding World Vegetarian Day, the NAVS also organizes annual education conferences including the Vegetarian Summerfest, which is open to anyone interested in learning more about vegetarianism. The national event attracts 500-600 people of all ages wanting to know more about a vegetarian diet. Information on the topic is provided via lectures, classes and cooking demonstrations. Lecturers include leading figures in health such as top doctors, dietitians, chefs , authors and social activists. Information about this event can be found at the Vegetarian Summerfest website.

If those around you need more persuasion to try a vegetarian diet, there?s plenty of research backing its benefits. In a study conducted by the German Cancer Research Center, men eating a vegetarian diet were shown to have a 50 percent lower risk of early death, and women saw a 30 percent lower risk.?Vegetarians also see lower risks of heart disease, cardiovascular disease and cancer, and typically weigh less and have more energy than meat eaters.

Share this convincing information with your circle of friends and family and ask if they?ll pledge to try out a vegetarian diet in October. If they do, their eating habits will not only benefit the environment and their personal health, but also save animals? lives.

(AP) ? A man fired from his job at a Minneapolis sign-making business pulled out a handgun and began shooting up its offices, fatally wounding the owner and four others before turning the gun on himself, police said Friday.

Andrew Engeldinger, 36, injured at least three others in the Thursday attack at Accent Signage Systems, which Police Chief Tim Dolan said lasted no more than 15 minutes. Dolan also said Engeldinger may have chosen to spare some former co-workers.

"It's clear he did walk by some people, very clear," Dolan said.

Engeldinger's family said in a statement issued through the National Alliance on Mental Illness later Friday that he had struggled with mental illness for years. They offered sympathy to the victims.

"This is not an excuse for his actions, but sadly, may be a partial explanation," the statement said.

No details were released about why Engeldinger was fired, but police said he had ongoing problems at work. Investigators who searched his home Thursday night found a second gun and packaging for 10,000 rounds of ammunition in the house. In the shooting, Engeldinger used a 9mm Glock semi-automatic pistol he had owned for about a year, Dolan said.

"He's obviously been practicing in how to use that gun," Dolan said.

Among those killed was Accent Signage System owner Reuven Rahamim, 61, employee Jacob Beneke, 34; and Keith Basinski, 50, a UPS driver who had made deliveries and pickups at the business for years.

Relatives described Rahamim, who immigrated from Israel and spent three decades building his business after starting it in his basement, as a passionate cook and devoted to his family. Beneke was an avid sculpture artist and painter who worked as a digital imaging manager, and Basinski was a Wisconsin native dedicated to the Green Bay Packers who Dolan said "just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time."

The other two men killed were identified as Rami Cooks, 62, of Minnetonka, and Ronald Edberg, 58, of Brooklyn Center. Two other people remained at the hospital, one in serious condition and one critical condition. Four of the five men killed suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Police received multiple 911 calls from inside the business during the attack, which Dolan described as "a hellish time." When officers arrived, they heard no shots but found some evidence people had tried to fight back, Dolan said. He declined to elaborate.

Police initially said Engeldinger was fired in the morning, then returned in the afternoon. But police revised their account later Friday, saying they were piecing together chaotic events from multiple witnesses and that no one saw the shooting from start to finish.

Capt. Amelia Huffman said it appears Engeldinger got a letter of reprimand in the mail, came into the office Thursday afternoon and was then terminated.

"This had been an ongoing employee situation, which culminated in termination in the afternoon," Huffman said. "From the best we can tell, the incident started right after Mr. Engeldinger had been fired."

She said there was a struggle in the office and shots were fired, and employees elsewhere in the building heard gunshots. "And Mr. Engeldinger left the back office area and fired additional shots throughout the building," she said.

There were more than 20 people in the building at the time.

Dolan described Accent Signage System, a business that includes both offices and manufacturing, as a large building with many rooms branching off to the sides. There was no security and it took tactical units a long time conduct a thorough search. They found two people hiding "a very long time" after the attack began, Dolan said.

Engeldinger's body was found in the basement, he said.

Sue Abderholden, executive director of the National Alliance on Mental Illness' Minnesota chapter, said Engeldinger's family had sought help from the group two years ago, with his parents taking a 12-week course on recognizing and dealing with mental illness.

She said their concerns were "much more centered around paranoid thoughts. No violence or anything like that." The Engeldingers were not able to convince Andrew to seek treatment, she said.

Andrew Engeldinger's uncle, Joe Engeldinger of New Germany, Minn., called his nephew a "good kid" who seemed normal and well-adjusted until about two years ago when he broke off family contact.

"When I would see his family, I would ask them about Andy and nobody could ever tell me anything," Joe Engeldinger said.

Joe Engeldinger, a professional handyman, said his nephew lived with him for a time in the early 1990s shortly after graduating high school, and worked for him helping to renovate old houses.

"He was a good worker. I never didn't trust him with anything," Joe Engeldinger said.

Chuck and Carolyn Engeldinger raised Andrew and his two siblings in Richfield, a suburb directly south of Minneapolis, according to Joe Engeldinger. He said his nephew was excited early in the last decade when he bought his first house ? the modest bungalow in south Minneapolis that police raided late Thursday night, hours after the shooting.

Neighbor Thomas Pitheon said he sometimes exchanged greetings with the man he knew as Andrew but who rarely made much of an impression.

"We just said hi, how you doing, that sort of thing," Pitheon said Friday. "He seemed like an average guy."

Pitheon said he "put two and two together" Thursday night after hearing about the shooting on the radio, then arriving home after dark to find "about a dozen" SWAT teams swarming around Engeldinger's house.

Joe Engeldinger said Andrew's immediate family were having a "horrible time" since learning what happened. He said they were as befuddled as anyone about why he withdrew from loved ones.

The phone line apparently belonging to Engeldinger's parents was not working Friday. His siblings, who also appear to live in the Twin Cities, did not answer phone calls or respond to messages through social media.

"I can only assume there was some kind of mental break there," Joe Engeldinger said. "He wasn't a monster. He wasn't. He was a real good kid, a real good person. He had a real good heart. I don't know what made all this transpire. Hopefully the truth will come out, and won't get twisted into some demented thing."

Haunting photos of buildings long-forgotten

Photographer Matthew Christopher , Abandoned America, ?photographs abandoned sites across America.? He documents the lost history and soul of structures as varied as homes, steel plants and asylums.????

Reporter's notebook by Jane Derenowski, NBC News

Things sound different in a place where no one goes. ??

Words echo off walls in empty rooms. ?

Real or imagined creatures scurry through mysterious puddles. ?

Shadows fall in strange places.?

Time doesn?t stop in abandoned buildings, it just moves differently -- and before their ultimate demise, photographer Matthew Christopher is determined to document the life, purpose, and deterioration of these structures.

They aren't just brick and mortar, wood and windows -- Christopher believes the abandoned buildings dotting America?s landscape also have something of a soul. ?He wants us to remember our country?s neglected factories, schools, churches, and hospitals before they are gone forever.?

He started this project 10 years ago while working in the mental health field. ?Some of his first photographs were inside a deserted asylum. ?

Since then, he?s documented dozens of abandoned buildings across the country and presented their stories at galleries and on his website, abandonedamerica.us. ?The goal, he says, is to highlight the economic failures leading to their downfall and the social impact on communities fractured by the closing of these neighborhood mainstays.

Photographer Matthew Christopher , Abandoned America, ?explains his passion for taking pictures of abandoned sites across America. ?He documents the lost history and soul of structures as varied as homes, steel plants and asylums.?

We met recently at the partially deserted Holmesburg Prison near Philadelphia. ?It was eerie, but there was a certain beauty in the stillness and things left behind. ?Inside, it reminded me of a quote by French composer Claude Debussy who famously said, ?Music is the space between the notes.? The places Christopher photographs tell their stories with silence and extraordinary light ? the spaces between the life and death of a building.?

His pictures make me feel like someone told me a secret.?

Christopher is a thoughtful man, melancholy in his assessment of decay -- and I feel lucky he shared his art and technique with us. ?I am also grateful to NBC News photographer Bob Riggio for documenting our adventure inside a place almost no one goes.

Blog Archive ? Log Chutes Downhill Mountain Bike Trail Project ...

Ambitions airborne for building downhill mountain bike trails on the San Juan National Forest. ?

A trestle bridge spanning a drainage bottom.

In a time when downhill mountain bike trails remain illegal on the San JuanNational Forest, locals are airborne with ambition to both build and ride these trails.

The question of whether these trails on the Columbine Ranger District can be built, adopted or maintained with safety and resource protection objectives in mind remains undecided by the Forest Service.

Setting the standards and guidelines on the approval and maintenance of officially designated downhill mountain biking trails on the District hinges on the fed?s response to the first proposal from the public to adopt such a trail into the official Forest Service trail system.

Recently proposed by Trails 2000, a local trail advocacy group, was a project to reconstruct several miles of mostly non-system trail up at Log Chutes and designate it as a downhill mountain bike trail.

Having already received the grant money from the San Juan National Forest Secure Rural Schools Act Resource Advisory Committee to implement the proposal, Trails 2000 and everyone else interested can only wait and hope that the Forest Service sets the precedent of approving them on theForest.

A draft decision on the approval or direction of the Log Chutes Downhill Mountain Bike Trail Project should be made by late Fall, according to Jed Bostford, the Recreation Staff Officer on the Columbine Ranger District of the US Forest Service.

?During the public scoping period, the Forest Service heard everything ranging from the trail?s a great idea, we fully support it, to Log Chutes is already an area that used to be very equestrian friendly, and now the equestrian users were feeling like it was another step towards not being as friendly,? said Botsford.

Currently the District is writing the Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) on the Project, which will then be open for public comments for a 30-day period, he said.

The final decision on the approval or direction of the EA will follow the public comment period on the draft. It could set a standard for the legality and maintenance of downhill mountain biking trails on the District, said Botsford.

?The Forest Service doesn?t have standards for downhill, because it?s new and upcoming. I mean it?s not really new. It?s 20-years old of a sport,? said Botsford, ?but the Forest Service has never set a standard in their Standards and Guidelines book on how to maintain trails.?

?It may be that we set the standards for our own District, but since other areas around the nation are dealing with downhill and freeride also, they may look around and say, ?what are these guys doing? and adopt those standards,? said Bostford. ?So it?s sort of precedent setting and we don?t want to get it wrong.?

If there is no appeal after the final EA, Botsford said trail construction could start next Spring.

Blatter tells FIFA advisers to curb criticism

ZURICH (AP) ? Criticized on all sides after a series of scandals, FIFA's executive committee members should not be publicly targeted by the governing body's anti-corruption advisers, President Sepp Blatter said Friday.

Blatter said he met the expert panel led by Mark Pieth on Thursday and corrected remarks the Swiss law professor made in Denmark last week.

Pieth had told a sports governance conference that "older" FIFA elected officials were resisting the reform proposals which Blatter invited his group to propose after bribery and vote-buying allegations damaged football's governing body.

Blatter says several colleagues objected to the criticism when they discussed his reform mission Friday.

"They were not happy about some declarations made by this independent committee or other officials involved there," the FIFA president told reporters, insisting: "There is no opposition in the FIFA executive committee towards the reform process."

Blatter used his news conference to renew FIFA's call for world soccer to fight against match-fixing and illegal betting, and promised players would be protected if they reported attempts to corrupt games.

Blatter and his 25-member board met over two days at the same time as Pieth's advisory panel gathered elsewhere in FIFA's home city of Zurich.

The group, composed of senior anti-corruption and legal experts working alongside delegates from FIFA sponsors and stakeholders, submitted a first round of proposals in March to Blatter's ruling committee. Those led to FIFA's 209 member nations approving a limited slate of changes, including a revamped two-chamber ethics court to prosecute and judge corruption cases.

Pieth's panel has begun preparing a second round of suggestions proposals that FIFA members will vote on next May in Mauritius.

Blatter said his reform drive was working and restoring FIFA's credibility.

"It is always a question of perception and the question of reality," he said. "We are in a good mood and in a good moment and I am sure that we will be able to succeed."

Blatter announced a new panel will shape changes to FIFA's legal statutes in consultation with member associations. It is composed of the secretary generals and legal directors of FIFA and its six continental confederations. It meets for the first time next month.

First, Blatter said he and Pieth would meet later Friday to update their progress.

With Kosovo's national and club teams waiting approval to play international matches against FIFA members, the executive committee pushed back an expected decision to its next meeting on Dec. 14 in Tokyo.

Bo Xilai did 'massive harm' to China's Communist Party, say officials (+video)

Bo Xilai, the disgraced Chinese politician facing prison time in a scandal involving the murder of a British businessman, has been expelled from the Communist Party, which is undergoing a once-in-a-decade generational transition of power.

China's ruling Communist Party accused disgraced politician Bo Xilai of abusing power, taking huge bribes and other crimes on Friday, sealing the fate of a controversial leader whose fall shook a leadership handover due at a congress from Nov. 8.

The once high-flying Bo now faces a criminal investigation that stemmed from a murder scandal, and will almost certainly be jailed. With the Communist Party congress about six weeks away, further steps in the case could come before then, helping pave the way for a transition of power, experts said.

"Bo Xilai's actions created grave repercussions and did massive harm to the reputation of the party and state, producing an extremely malign effect at home and abroad," the official statement from a party leaders' meeting said, according to a report by the official Xinhua news agency.

Bo's wife Gu Kailai and his former police chief Wang Lijun have already been jailed over the scandal stemming from the murder of British businessman Neil Heywood in the southwestern municipality of Chongqing, where Bo was Communist Party chief.

The official statement carried by Xinhua said that in the murder scandal, Bo "abused his powers of office, committed serious errors and bears a major responsibility".

That charge appears to reflect accusations from Wang's trial that suggested Bo tried to stymie the murder investigation.

Reports that Bo, the "princeling" son of a revolutionary leader, could escape with a light punishment have now been dealt a fatal blow, and accusations of womanising could further tarnish his reputation in the eyes of Chinese people.

But the few weeks left before the congress will probably not allow time for a trial, said He Weifang, a law professor at Peking University who has closely followed Bo's downfall.

"I think it's quite certain that he won't be able to escape punishment under the criminal law, but the timing makes it unlikely that will happen before the congress," said He.

"I'd guess that he'll get a jail sentence of 20 years or longer. The death penalty is unlikely, although the bribery charges could in theory allow it, if the amount is as huge as they say."

At the congress, Chinese President Hu Jintao will step down as party chief, almost certainly making way for Vice President Xi Jinping to emerge as top leader. Xi is then almost sure to be appointed state president at the annual parliament session, likely in March next year.

Warning to heed example

Bo, 63, has been expelled from the party as well as the elite decision-making Politburo and Central Committee "in view of his errors and culpability in the Wang Lijun incident and the intentional homicide case involving Bogu Kailai", said the party announcement.

Bogu is his wife's official but rarely used surname.

Bo's "grave violations of party discipline" extended back to his time as an official in Dalian city and Liaoning province in northeast China, and as minister of commerce, said the statement from the Politburo.

Bicycle Tools You Need to Have | Content for Reprint

Author: Abu Fakhri | Total views: 165 Comments: 0
Word Count: 655 Date:

It is safe to assume that everyone with a bike should have a set of bicycle tools that they keep with them all times. This set of tools will be able to help you in solving problems related to your bike. If possible, you need to carry the tool with you everywhere and every time you ride your bicycle. It eases you in fixing problems you have with your bike. There are some tools that must be present in your bicycle tool box. Without these tools, you will find it difficult to fix the bike yourself.

The first bicycle tools you must have are tubes. If you have a bike, it is suggested that you have at least two extra tubes with you. Tubes or tire valves can be found in almost every bike store around you. There are two types of tire valve owned by almost every bike that are released recently. Those tubes are called "Presta" and "Shrader". The former is a valve tire that comes from France. It is also called French valve. This valve is characterized as small and thin. The latter, on the other hand, is bigger than the former and looks a lot like a car tire valve.

The second tool is a lever for the tires. This tool is an important bicycle tool you should have. Lever is shaped like a beer bottle opener and is used to detach the tires from the wheels. Since it can break the tires, you have to be really careful in using it. If you go to bike stores, you will find that lever is sold in a set.

The third tool is a bicycle pump. This is an essential bicycle tool that people must have. The bike pump that you should have is the one that is attachable to your bike. People call this kind of pump as a frame pump. The characteristic of this pump is its light weight. This pump can come in handy during a sudden flat tire during a cycling activity. Using a pump requires practice and an inexperienced person can experience difficulty in doing so.

Other bicycle tools that are needed are a bicycle patch repair kit, which serves as a back up when there is a sudden flat tire; a "Presta" valve adapter that is used to repair a flat tire that your friend may have, which weighs less than the frame pump; and carbon dioxide cartridge inflation that you can use when you do not have times to fix a flat tire yourselves. These tools are really necessary helpful to your bike. So, if you have not had them with you, you should buy them right away.

Furthermore, there are also some regular maintenance bicycle tools. First tool that should be owned is cleaning liquid. This liquid is usually sold with soft cloths. You can use the soft cloths to help you apply the cleaning liquid on your bike. However, you have to be careful not to scratch the surface of your bike. The second maintenance tool is a screwdriver. You need to have, at least, two kinds of screwdriver for your bike, which are flat head and cross-head or Phillips screwdrivers. Next tool that needs to be possessed is a pair of pliers. It is better to have both short and long pliers. The following tool is a wire cutter that you usually can get together with the pliers. A small hammer is complimentary if you need to hit a part of the bike to get it back to its place. Other maintenance tools are plastic tire levers, which are used to peel off the bike tires; a torch to calibrate the disc brakes; a set of wrenches; brush, to clean the various parts of your bike; and a toothbrush for bike parts that are hard to reach with brush.

Eliminating invasive cervical cancer possible, researchers report

ScienceDaily (Sep. 28, 2012) ? Researchers at Moffitt Cancer Center and colleagues at the University of South Florida and The Ohio State University have published a paper in the September issue of Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention that provides an overview on preventing invasive cervical cancer.

"The good news is that over the past several decades, the incidence of invasive cervical cancer has declined dramatically," said senior author Anna R. Giuliano, Ph.D., director of Moffitt's Center for Infection Research in Cancer and senior member of the Cancer Epidemiology Department. "The bad news is that 60 percent of invasive cervical cancers occur in women who are members of underserved racial or ethnic minorities, in women residing in rural areas or living in poverty."

The incidence of invasive cervical cancer has declined 75 percent since the 1940s. According to the authors, rates have decreased from 14.8 per 100,000 women in 1975 to 6.6 per 100,000 in 2008. Credit for the decline is given to the more widespread use of the Pap smear.

The number of current cases of invasive cervical cancer varies by race and ethnicity, geography, and socioeconomic status. For Hispanics, the incidence of invasive cervical cancer is 10.4 per 100,000, higher than any other group. Among blacks 85 and older, the incidence is three times higher than white women in the same age group.

"In looking across the nation, there are geographic and socioeconomic disparities associated with invasive cervical cancer rates," noted lead author Christine M. Pierce Campbell, Ph.D., a postdoctoral fellow within Moffitt's Cancer Epidemiology Department. "Along the U.S.-Mexico border, in the deep South and in Appalachia, rates are higher than in other regions of the nation. Also, many studies have shown that socioeconomic status predicts who gets screened, diagnosed and treated for invasive cervical cancer, regardless of race and ethnicity."

Giuliano, Pierce Campbell and their co-authors also note that federal and local funding of prevention programs, such as the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program, the only nationwide screening program, has helped reduce incidence. Although the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program was implemented to promote screening among high-risk and low-income women, the program has historically served few of the women eligible for the service. The numbers of those taking advantage of the service vary by state, but between 2004 and 2006, only 8.7 percent of women eligible for screening received it, the authors said.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination, now in two forms, could also reduce incidence, the authors said. GARDASIL, the first HPV vaccine targeting females ages 9 to 26 to prevent invasive cervical cancer, was released in 2006. It was followed by the CERVARIX vaccine, which is targeted to females 10 to 25.

However, HPV vaccine use lags behind other adolescent vaccines, Giuliano said.

"Barriers to HPV vaccination include costs, perceived safety issues, and the perception that vaccination is unnecessary if the woman or child is not sexually active," Pierce Campbell said. "Parental knowledge, attitudes and beliefs influence utilization, as well. Physician recommendation of the HPV vaccine is a key factor to its use, yet many primary care physicians have not been proactive in promoting it, especially to young adolescents in the target age groups."

Because HPV infection in men contributes to HPV infection in women and the subsequent development of invasive cervical cancer, an additional strategy to reduce incidence has been the HPV vaccination of males, the authors said.

"Gender-neutral HPV vaccination would result in maximal disease reduction," they wrote. "Universal HPV vaccination has the potential to reduce the incidence of invasive cervical cancer and its precancerous lesions by 91 percent."

"Invasive cervical cancer can be eliminated in the United States," concluded the authors. "To achieve this goal, we need to adopt a comprehensive national health care program that underscores accessible and equitable health care, one that delivers compassionate care to all. A future without invasive cervical cancer is possible, although we must be innovative and vigilant in our approach to reduce its burden, as well as reduce the disparities in access to screening and overcome the obstacles to vaccination."

The authors' work was supported in part by a grant from the National Cancer Institute (R25 CA147832). It is one of five manuscripts published as a special issue to highlight the progress needed to eliminate cervical cancer worldwide. The manuscripts grew from five podium presentations at the 2011 International Papillomavirus Conference and Clinical Workshop held in Berlin.

Wall-Ye robot does grunt work at vineyards

17 hrs.

Winemaking is the latest industry to be hit by robot?fever: French inventors have created a robot that rolls among the grapevines, checking and perhaps pruning as it goes.

A wine grower in France complained three years ago to?Christophe Millot that they were always short on staff. Millot designed the Wall-Ye robot, which is indeed named after Pixar's trash-collecting WALL-E, and the pair have been working together on it ever since.

Wall-Ye moves around on treads and is equipped with a number of cameras for navigation and inspection of vines.?It navigates by GPS, but also recognizes each plant individually and can carry out?special instructions or follow up on previous work.

There are plans to make it able to prune vines and eventually pick grapes, but for now it is limited to less complicated tasks. But checking for bugs, disease, temperature variations and soil problems are important parts of running a vineyard ? and they can be tedious.

Another winemaker, Claire Gazeau-Montrasi, explains in the AFP video above?that she would welcome a robot that took care of the most boring jobs. Like a Roomba or similar household robot, it can do its job slowly but surely, working around its owner's schedule.

At ?25,000, or around $32,000, Wall-Ye isn't cheap, though there are larger and more expensive systems that are capable of more. Automation of agriculture hasn't made it to vineyards quite yet because of the delicate nature of the task, but that may soon change, with?robots like Wall-Ye leading the charge.

Cooperative-Style Living Eases One Writing Mother's Juggle ...

Bookmark and Share

Most parents of young kids only dream about how helpful it would be to live in a community where friends, neighbors or extended family pitch in systematically to help each other out with everything from childcare to daily errands.

But author Anjali Mitter Duva has made it her reality by intentionally partnering with a neighbor to share cooking, grocery shopping and childcare. The arrangement, which all began seven years ago with two steaming bowls of pho soup, has grown into the cornerstone of Anjali?s strategy for juggling fiction-writing with the care of her two young children, her work as a professional project manager and her role as volunteer executive director of Chhandam Institute of Kathak Dance.?In fact, it worked out so well for both women that their families ultimately decided to move together into a new, two-family home to continue sharing day-to-day responsibilities into the foreseeable future.

This amazing story of modern-day, cooperative-style living has implications for families everywhere. ?It?s an honor to have Anjali here today to tell us about it.

Welcome, Anjali!

Q: When you first met the neighbor, Kathy, whose family you now share daily life with, you were total strangers. ?Tell us how your relationship began.

AMD: It all began about seven years ago. My family was were living in a typical New England triple-decker, on the middle floor. We had a cordial relationship with the couple who had been living downstairs for the previous 2-3 years. During that time, we?d been tantalized by the aromas of cooking which wafted up through the ventilation system. Whenever the heat or AC came on, we were first hit with the mouthwatering smells of sizzling garlic, Szichuan peppercorns, star anise and the like. Kathy is Vietnamese, and makes fabulous soups (pho), dishes with rice noodles and grilled catfish, fresh rolls? I could go on. Anyhow, one day she called us and said she had made a vast amount of pho, and would we like some? ?Next thing we knew, she was at our door bearing two steaming bowls of fabulous soup, along with dishes of Thai basil, lime, bean sprouts and various other condiments.

The next time I made something easily scaled up to a larger quantity, we offered her and her husband a meal. I think it was boeuf bourguignon. She accepted, and a new tradition was born. We each had a baby or toddler at home, and having one night a week of a fabulous, tasty and home-made meal delivered to our door was wonderful. For the person cooking, it was hardly any more effort, and for the one receiving the food, it was a major help. This has been the basis for the whole arrangement.

Q: How did this evolve into the current arrangement where you intentionally plan meals together, share grocery shopping, watch each other?s children and take joint vacations?

AMD:It was all a very gradual process, and I think that has been key to its success. If two sets of friends set off right from the start to have such an integrated arrangement, I think it is highly likely it would fail. For one thing, we were not really friends to begin with. Of course, we got along well, but there was none of the emotional baggage of a friendship?what if I say no to a dish, will I hurt her feelings? What if she feels this is a burden? There was none of that. And as each system worked well, we gradually added more aspects, in a very organic fashion. From an organized you-cook-on-Mondays-I?ll-cook-on-Wednesdays type of arrangement, we gradually became flexible about which day would be whose, depending on our schedules each week. We were both working, juggling many things, and the whole point was for it to be a help, not an additional chore. And then, it morphed into a system in which one of us, upon planning a meal that could easily be doubled, would simply call the other and offer it, even several times a week. It made sense.

Then came the other aspects. I had to run out to do an errand, and the baby was asleep, so I dropped off the monitor with Kathy, who was right downstairs in the same building, and did what I needed to do. While I was out, I was going to stop at a grocery store, so did Kathy need anything? In this way, we started piggybacking the other person?s errands on our own. Once this started, we began a running tab, which lives on my fridge. The funny thing is, money hardly ever crosses hands! Without a conscious effort on our parts, the spending of money has always been quite even. We could probably do without the tab, but we are both very practical and pragmatic, and we believe it?s good to have, even after seven years. Here?s an amusing fact: we?ve gone on vacations together, our two families, and usually kept a bowl in which we drop our initialed receipts during the week. At the end of the vacation, we tally it all up, and see who owes who what. On one of our trips, to Savannah, the difference ended up being $2! And more recently we shared a house in Portugal, and had a similar experience.

Yes, you read that correctly. We?ve gone on vacation together several times. You might wonder why, since we live near each other, but it?s been fantastic for everyone. It doesn?t necessarily mean that we do everything together. When each family had just one child, it meant that the kids each had a playmate, and the parents could relax a bit more. For example, each morning, one parent of the four got up early with the kids. The other three got to sleep in. And during the day, one family could take the other?s child, and in this way one couple could have a day and/or evening together, sans children. Four parents with two children, it was a perfect ratio!

Now we each have a second child, and they are just four months apart. They might as well be twins. They benefit (suffer?) from having four parents each, and our economies of scale have simply grown with us. The older children have sleepovers, and help watch the younger ones, and their own relationship has continued to be essentially that of siblings.

Q: Can you describe how the cooking, grocery and child-care sharing works on a day-to-day basis?

AMD:Well, there?s how it works, and why it works. The why is key: Kathy and I have very similar temperaments. We are planners. We are practical. We know that if something slips the mind of one, it will likely be remembered by the other. We have similar educational backgrounds (in fact, by coincidence, all four of us went to the same college, although the two couples didn?t know each other then). It?s all rather uncanny. But the compatibility is not just between the two of us. Our families are compatible. The two husbands have many interests in common, and some similar personality traits. The two families have nearly identical values when it comes to parenting, spending money, all those areas which are key to harmony. I know that if one of my children does something for which she needs to be disciplined, and she is Next Door (as we each refer to the other household), I can trust that the issue will be handled the way my husband and I would handle it ourselves. (Our oldest children have been known to grumble and say to one of us ?That?s exactly what my mom would say!?) And this is the area which I can only attribute to miraculous luck: it was total coincidence that our families ended up being neighbors. And of course, it helps that we all eat everything, and are always happy to try out new things. There are several cultures and backgrounds represented among us?Indian, French, Vietnamese, Filipino, Jewish, Catholic, Buddhist, Hindu, and, more tangentially, Italian and Polish?and we?ve all integrated elements of all of these into our lives. I speak in French to Kathy?s youngest daughter, and she speaks in Vietnamese to mine. It all works out.

As to how it works on a day-to-day basis, Kathy and I joke that we need a direct feed between our brains. We talk several times a day. The kids go in and out of each other?s homes. (We connected our back decks to facilitate this, although we miss the days in our previous home, when no one had to step outside. A couple of winters ago, we literally had to tunnel through the snow to get back and forth, and that?s not easy with trays of soup!) It?s a bit like a sit-com. I?ll float into Next Door in my pajamas with my cup of tea in the morning and vent at Kathy about some random thing (another advantage: a built in outlet for venting, a sounding board for ideas, a source of advice), and while I?m there I?ll pick up the (clean) dishes from the last meal I sent over, and drop off some clothes that my daughter has outgrown, and we?ll plan the next couple of dinners. Kathy will mention she needs to go to Target, and I?ll text her my list. Later in the day, I?ll hear the garage door open, and she?ll drop off the purchases. Once the children are home from school and daycare and my work day has, whether I like it or not, come to an end, we often pool the kids on one side, with one of us keeping an eye on them, the other getting started with dinner prep. Sometimes, especially if a husband is running late for dinner, we?ll feed all four kids on one side, so at least there?s only one home which is a total mess. (Two of the children are now two, so the downstairs usually looks like a tornado hit it by bed time.)

Q: When my husband and I looked for a new home, it took us a year just to agree on what we wanted! ?How did the house-hunting go with not one, but two, couples involved?

AMD: Again, a lot of luck. And sticking to what we cared about. We were fortunate to work with a realtor who ?got? what we were trying to do. She represented us (each family) on the buyer side, and her partner, both in life and in business, helped us on the seller side, since we each had to sell our condos. All in all, they stood to gain from four transactions! So they were motivated, too. Nonetheless, it was a long process, and we are so grateful that they stuck by us for two years. (They also benefited from a few ?commune? meals as we met to discuss offers.) What we were trying to do was unusual, unorthodox, and probably, for many of the agents or owners of the places we looked at, just plain weird. You should have seen their faces when we?d ask if we could build a door between the two units! We live, at least here in the US, in a society which believes that ?good fences make good neighbors? and people want to have their own possessions and their own land, and here we were, a jumbled mix of people speaking a jumble of languages, wanting to take down fences and make holes in the wall! It?s not that we don?t believe in clear delineations (for example, we have never mingled any finances, and even when we connected the decks, we made sure to do it in such a way that they could be disconnected again when we sell our units) but we might appear that way to many.

In the end, it took us two years to find what we wanted. Every now and then, our realtors would gently suggest that we consider two houses on the same street, but we just shook our heads. How could we bring meals to each other that way? How could our children wander in and out of each other?s homes that way? In the nick of time, we found our place. I gave birth to my youngest just three weeks after moving in.

Q: How has your partnership with Kathy and her family helped your writing and your other outside endeavors, both creative and professional?

AMD:?Wow. I can hardly even begin to answer that. When my book is published, she?s going to be among the first to be acknowledged. Having an extra ?me,? essentially, has saved my sanity, my creativity, and probably my career. On the writing front, I?ve been able to attend workshops and events knowing that Kathy and her family could take my children for the gap of time between when I needed to leave the house and when my husband could get home from work. I?ve managed to eke out extra hours of writing time when my youngest was napping in the afternoons by sending my oldest next door for a while, and knowing that I didn?t need to think about making dinner. As I type this, Kathy is picking up both older ones at school so I can have an extra half hour. I?ve had to be on work calls (I freelance as a writer and project manager) early in the morning before the sitter has arrived, and Kathy has been able to take the little one. Similarly, recently, she texted me from Next Door because she was on a phone interview and her daughter woke up crying in her crib. I swooped in and watched her while her mother fielded questions about how she dealt with crises and juggled many projects at once. And of course Kathy and her family have seen me through the ups and downs of writing a book and trying to get it published. Kathy has read and commented on my manuscript.

They?ve also been a tremendous help when I?ve gone away. I am planning a research trip to India for my next book, and I can only really contemplate leaving the kids back home because I know there is a whole additional family to help out. (My husband will be here, but he tends to have to work long hours.) I attended a four day kathak (Indian classical) dance retreat in California in August, and Kathy picked up children after camp, helped with morning drop off, etc.

Q: Has it influenced your children and family? ?How?

AMD: Beyond the obvious influence on my own life, I think it has helped our family maintain a certain level of sanity and standards that might have otherwise slipped in a household with two working parents who also have several other activities (my husband, for example, also teaches martial arts while I?m quite involved in Indian dance). The standard of our meals, for example, I think has remained quite high, because when either Kathy or I cook, we are more likely to make something tasty or creative or elaborate, from scratch, than if we had to cook every single day. Similarly, we don?t mind shopping in several different locations to get the best combination of produce and fish and meat because we divvy up the errands, so one of us picks up fresh produce at a farm stand while the other gets the staples at the supermarket. Still just one trip for each of us, with double the rewards.

I think the children have also been influenced tremendously, although they probably don?t realize it now. Most likely, it will dawn on them when they are older how special their childhood was. For example, they have all the advantages of multiple siblings each?built in playmates, pals to team up with, other children who will commiserate about the unfairness of parents?without the down sides. They still each get to have their own room (although they like to do sleepovers), their own toys and books, etc. Culturally, they are also gaining a lot. Just the number of languages in our households is a benefit to them, especially for the younger two who entered the scene when the ?commune? was already in full effect. And the variety of foods they encounter at the dinner table is greater than it would have been otherwise, especially for us with the addition of the Vietnamese component. Soups made with oxtail and dried squid are nothing unusual here.

Q: Tell us about your novel, Faint Promise of Rain.

AMD: Throughout these years, in addition to helping to run a dance non-profit, Chhandika, and freelancing, I have written a historical novel, and am now working to get it published while I begin to write another one. (That?s a whole other post!) Set in sixteenth century northern India, Faint Promise of Rain tells the story of Adhira, who is born into a family of Hindu temple dancers on the day of the first rains in five years. Around her, fear of change under a conquering Muslim emperor abounds. Adhira?s father, however, turns a blind eye to the political happenings, and places all his hopes for his sacred tradition in this youngest child of his.

I developed, with a documentary videographer, a trailer for the book, which is at www.faintpromiseofrain.com. The inspiration for the story came from my study of kathak dance, a centuries-old storytelling art form of North India. The start of my dance training coincided with a recent return from Jaisalmer, a truly magical fortress city in the Thar desert of India, and the strong visuals I retained from that trip, along with the dance and a glimpse into its history, along with my inclination to write and my own Indian heritage, all came together and enabled me to write this book.

Q: And just to whet our appetites even more, can you give us an idea of some of the dishes you and Kathy like to cook?

AMD: For the dishes Kathy cooks, the easiest would be for you to hop over to kathynle.com and check out some of her recipes and photos. Be forewarned, however, that you will get hungry! As for me, I don?t make nearly as many Indian dishes as I?d like, but I do a lot of French-inspired cooking, having lived 18 years in France, and like to explore foods from Mediterranean regions. Tonight I am making a salade ni?oise, and my recipe, along with a week of summer meals, can be found here.?My husband is also a big fan of grilling and BBQ, and will make North Carolina pulled pork, or ribs, or brisket.

Thank you, Anjali! ?My stomach is growling and I?m contemplating bringing over a vat of?French onion soup to my next door neighbor to see where things go.
