CHARDON, Ohio - Hundreds of people stood shoulder to shoulder along the street on a cold, windy Saturday morning to honor one of three teenagers killed in a high school shooting.

The service in Chardon for 16-year-old Daniel Parmertor is the first of the three funerals. Services for 16-year-old Demetrius Hewlin and 17-year-old Russell King Jr. will be held next week.

Parmertor's family said they planned to bury him with his first paycheck ? still unopened ? from his new job at a bowling alley, The Cleveland Plain Dealer reported.

At the mass, Danny's brother Dominic said, "Not only did I lose my brother, I lost my best friend. I don't want to wait 50 or 60 years to see you . . . My life will never be the same," according to The Plain Dealer.

Students walk after the burial of Daniel Parmertor at All Soul's Cemetery on Saturday, in Chardon, Ohio.

Those honoring the teen wore the school's colors of red and black and huddled in hoods, knit hats and blankets. They held U.S. flags and signs featuring red hearts and saying "We are One Heartbeat." Some expressed continued disbelief about the Monday attack.

Parmertor was remembered as a computer whiz and for his laugh and wit.

NBC affilate WKYC-TV reported members of the community were handing out food andwater to each other before the funeral procession as mourners lined the street to show the Parmertor family their support.

Two other students were seriously wounded when a gunman opened fire in the cafeteria at Chardon High School, about 30 miles east of Cleveland. One remains in serious condition; a second has been released from the hospital.

The Mass was held at the Church of St. Mary across the street from the school complex where the attack occurred. It's the same church where thousands showed up for a vigil earlier this week.

On Friday, hundreds had waited hours in cold rain to pay respects to the teen at a funeral home in nearby Eastlake. He was to be buried at a Chardon cemetery.

Hearing for suspect next week
Charges filed in juvenile court accuse 17-year-old T.J. Lane of aggravated murder, attempted aggravated murder and felonious assault. Lane's next hearing is Tuesday.

Chardon starts painful process of getting back to normal

Prosecutor David Joyce said the motive for the shooting remains unclear. He said the victims were selected randomly, and he called the suspect someone "who's not well."

Classes resumed at the 1,100-student school on Friday with police on hand.

Should I Care If Mormons Baptize Me After I?m Dead?

Emily Bazelon: Plotz, I thought John Dickerson and I talked you out of this last week. These baptisms are insulting. You spend your life as a Jew; you die in part because you're a Jew, in Pearl's case and certainly Simon Wiesenthal?s; you hold on to that identity at great personal cost. And then when you're dead, someone else decides for you that no, actually you're a Mormon? To hell with that, no pun intended. Religion is exclusive?maybe not Buddhism, but all the other major world religions. You choose to be one thing, not the other, and that is your choice, not some other church's.

Top two ways to sell your home in today's real estate market | SAR ...

Posted on February 29, 2012 by melissamarro

ZipRealty offers sound advice and tips to sell your home in today?s real estate market.

1. List your home at a price that is both reasonable and fair
2. Make sure your home stands out from the rest (hint: home staging!)

Since we know that making your home stand out, making sure it is as visually pleasing as possible, is an important part of selling your home, can you DIY this step, or should you hire a professional home stager?

Professional home stagers will assess the areas of the home to determine:

• how to best arrange the furniture to make the rooms look larger
• determine what, if any, areas need some fresh paint & what colors will look best to help you sell
• determine if any additional artwork or accessories will help enhance your space to buyers
• catch all the small things that you miss because you are living in the home and may have been looking at so long you don?t even notice they are there

If you decide to do the home staging yourself, here are some tips:

• clean the home inside and out
• get rid of all clutter, including on counter tops and in closets & cupboards
• make sure everything is in working order
• all light bulbs function and are the same wattage
• remove dated and worn furniture
• use accessories to enhance key features of the home

If you aren?t sure of what to do, contact a local home stager and have them create a written consultation report of what should be done. This will allow you to assess what items should be completed by a professional, and what items may be done DIY style. This may also help you save money by focusing on the things that are most important and will bring the biggest return on investment.

Speaking of return on investment, here are HomeGain?s top 10 home improvement projects when selling your home.

Regular testing a powerful punch against colorectal cancer ...

Post a story

From the community

DUPAGE COUNTY?March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness month and the DuPage County Health Department recommends that county residents get screened for this disease because it is one of the few cancers that can be successfully treated if detected early.

About 51,000 Americans die of colorectal cancer each year. It is a leading cause of death for both men and women, but there is hope. Mortality rates for colorectal cancer have been declining for 20 years?mostly due to screening and early treatment?yet only six in 10 adults are up to date on their screening schedules.

Start getting screened at age 50 if you are at average risk for colorectal cancer. If you are at higher risk, you may need to get started at an earlier age and get screened more often. If you are older than 75, ask your doctor if you should continue to be screened. The best time to get screened is before you have any symptoms.

See your doctor about tests that find pre-cancer and cancer and how often they should be taken.

The health department recommends these colorectal cancer prevention tips:
? Be physically active for at least 30 minutes, at least five days a week.
? Maintain a healthy weight.
? Don?t smoke. Quit if you do smoke.
? If you drink alcohol, have no more than one drink a day if you?re a woman or two drinks a day if you?re a man.
? Eat fruits, vegetable and whole grains to stay healthy.
? Eat less red meat and cut out processed meats.

Oil near $107 after mixed US demand signs

SINGAPORE (AP) ? Oil prices rose slightly to near $107 a barrel Wednesday in Asia after a large drop the day before amid mixed signs about the strength of U.S. crude demand.

Benchmark oil for April delivery was up 42 cents to $106.97 midday Singapore time in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract fell by $2.01 to $106.55 per barrel in New York on Tuesday.

Brent crude was up 60 cents to $122.15 per barrel in London.

U.S. crude and oil product inventories were mixed last week. The American Petroleum Institute said late Tuesday that crude inventories rose 521,000 barrels while analysts surveyed by Platts, the energy information arm of McGraw-Hill Cos., had predicted an increase of 1 million barrels.

Inventories of gasoline fell 916,000 barrels last week while distillates dropped 3.3 million barrels, the API said.

The Energy Department's Energy Information Administration reports its weekly supply data later Wednesday.

An improvement in consumer sentiment helped bolster oil prices in Asia. The Conference Board, a private business research group, said Tuesday that consumer confidence rose to a one-year high in February. However, the government said orders for durable goods in the U.S. in January had the biggest fall in three years.

Crude has jumped from $96 earlier this month amid growing tension over Iran's nuclear program. Investors will be closely watching the latest data on U.S gross domestic product and industrial production due to be released later Wednesday.

In other energy trading, heating oil rose 2.2 cents to $3.24 per gallon and gasoline futures gained 1 cent at $3.23 per gallon. Natural gas added 1.9 cents at $2.54 per 1,000 cubic feet.
