An Honest Review of Prepaid Legal | BetterNetworker.com

You've probably heard of Legal Shield, formerly known as Prepaid Legal, through a friend, family member or as an employee benefit where you work or have worked in the past. Legal Shield is the pioneer of legal plans that are designed for average people who can't afford access to high priced attorneys. The idea behind Legal Shield is that you pay a monthly fee, sort of like insurance and in return, you have access to some of the top rated attorneys in the country. The service will cost around $26 or less for families and more if you want a plan for your business.

So what's the deal? Is it worth it?

I have been involved with Legal Shield in the past as a sales associate and can give an honest review of the company and the service. Keep in mind that I am not involved with Legal Shield any longer as a sales associate and do not have any interest in giving a skewed review. I will only state the facts and the truth of what I have experienced. Here we go...

The service is great in many ways and not so great in other ways. I still purchase the legal membership every month for $17 and the identity theft plan for $9.95. I have kept the services just because the day may arise when I will need to use them. I have used the legal service many times in the past but not for anything major. I have called for advice on matters pertaining to my business, some real estate issues and for some help on getting a landlord to honor their contract. For the most part the service has came through for me.

The process is to call the 1-800 number that you are given which goes to the representing law firm in your state. You are greeted by an operator that will ask what your issue is about and ask you to explain it. This is so it can be routed to the most experienced Attorney for the type of legal issue you are inquiring about. Of course, it usually doesn't work out that way but would be great if it did. You will be given a call back by an Attorney within a day or two depending on the volume they are experiencing. Typically it has always been the next day for me. Once, I remember getting called back only an hour or two after I had initially called.

Keep in mind that you cannot ask to specifically speak with a certain Attorney which is one of the things I didn't like about it. You will be assigned to a random Attorney each time which can get a bit annoying especially when you have had an ongoing dialog with a certain Attorney. Nevertheless, they will have access to all the information from your last call and the notes from the last Attorney so they will be able to continue helping you.

You can ask questions, have them review contracts, leases, or any other legal document you are about to sign. They are great at writing letters in order to get things resolved. They will make phone calls on your behalf to creditors and other places that may be threatening you or harassing you. There are many things included in the membership and too many for me to talk about here. Most people use the service for the priceless advice.

So do I recommend it?

Well, I continue to maintain my monthly membership so I would have to say yes. I do recommend it because you never know what can happen. I've been happy with it over the years, the cost is minimal and you have peace of mind knowing that a knowledgeable staff of Attorneys are available when you need them. I have had the service for about 8 years now and have paid the same price from the beginning. I have heard that your membership price will never increase so whatever you get it at, that's what you keep it at forever.

Overall, I think Legal Shield is a great company and the membership is a no-brainer. I mean, of course it's worth $26 per month especially if you own a home business or deal with lots of contracts and other potential legal situations.
