Israel indicts ex-minister Lieberman

JERUSALEM ?

Israel's Justice Ministry filed its indictment of former foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman in a Jerusalem court on Sunday, charging him with breach of trust and fraud in a case that could hurt his political future.

Lieberman is accused of trying to advance the career of a former diplomat after the envoy relayed information to him about a criminal investigation into the former Cabinet minister's business dealings.

On Dec. 13, the Justice Ministry released a draft indictment to both Lieberman and the press. On Sunday, an amended version of that draft was filed in the Jerusalem Magistrates Court after prosecutors received testimony suggesting he was more deeply involved than previously thought in trying to promote the diplomat.

The actual charges remained unchanged.

Lieberman, who denies any wrongdoing, resigned his Cabinet post earlier this month after he was informed of the pending charges, though he remains a member of parliament. He did not appear in court on Sunday and had no comment on the indictment.

The diplomat he tried to promote, former ambassador to Belarus Zeev Ben-Aryeh, reached a plea bargain with the state in the case earlier this year.

The indictment did not address the main suspicions against Lieberman that had been the focus of a years-long investigation. Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein ultimately decided that prosecutors did not have a strong enough case to charge Lieberman with illicitly receiving millions of dollars from businessmen and laundering the cash through straw companies in eastern Europe.

While he was charged with lesser offenses, Lieberman's political future could be compromised if the court that hears the case decides to convict him of a crime that carries what is known in Israeli law as "moral turpitude." Lawmakers convicted of such crimes must resign immediately from parliament, then are barred from re-entering politics for seven years.

Lieberman's Yisrael Beiteinu party is running on a joint list with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud in the Jan. 22 election, and he is expected to be re-elected to parliament. Political commentators had viewed the hookup as grooming him to become a future prime minister. Lieberman takes a hard line on concessions to the Palestinians and perceives Israel's large Arab minority as a threat to the Jewish state.

In other political news, Israel's Supreme Court unanimously rejected an election committee's attempt to disqualify an Arab lawmaker from running for parliament again next month because she took part in a flotilla that tried to breach Israel's naval blockade of the Hamas-run Gaza Strip.

The lawmaker, Hanin Zoabi, enraged many Israelis in 2010 by joining the Turkish-led Mavi Marmara flotilla, which was stormed by Israeli naval commandos who clashed with pro-Palestinian activists, killing nine. The Israeli military says the soldiers acted in self-defense after being attacked on the deck.

Zoabi was nearly assaulted in parliament by another lawmaker and subsequently was stripped of some of her parliamentary privileges.

Earlier this month, an Israeli elections committee voted to disqualify her from running in next month's election. She appealed that decision to the Supreme Court, which overturned it, as it has rejected the committee's attempts in previous years to bar other Arab candidates from running.

"I welcome the ruling," Zoabi said. "I hope this ruling will put an end to the political witchhunt."

Lawmaker Danny Danon, who collected thousands of signatures demanding that Zoabi's candidacy be disqualified, accused the court of "backing the Marmara terrorist rather than naval commando fighters."

The court said in its ruling that it would release its reason for overturning the decision at a later date. Under Israel's election law, the court had to issue its ruling by Sunday.

Clippers win 17th in row, finish December at 16-0

LOS ANGELES (AP) ? After their 17th consecutive victory gave them a perfect month, the Los Angeles Clippers finally paused to admire their achievement.

"We got something extremely magical going on," said Caron Butler after the Clippers beat the Utah Jazz 107-96 on Sunday night to become the third team in NBA history to record a perfect month.

"When we win we usually jump up and down once or twice," coach Vinny Del Negro said. "Tonight we let them jump and down three or four times, so everyone had their fill."

The Clippers went 16-0 in December to join the 1995-96 San Antonio Spurs, which included Del Negro, and 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers as the only teams to go undefeated in a month. Their franchise-record winning streak is the longest since Boston won 19 in a row four years ago.

"I am amazed because I haven't done it since I've been in the league," said seven-year veteran Chris Paul, whose 19 points and nine assists helped his team maintain the league's best record at 25-6.

Butler led the Clippers with 29 points despite not playing in the fourth quarter and made all six of his 3-pointers, including five in the opening period. Jamal Crawford scored 11 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter. Blake Griffin piled up five fouls and was held to seven points after getting double-teamed.

"That shows our depth," Paul said. "Our bench stepped up amazing. On any given night it can be another guy."

The streak isn't talked about among the players and coaches. But it's a popular topic among everyone else.

"That's an incredible record to have," Utah's Derrick Favors said. "They've got 17 straight wins and they're playing hard. I know there's a lot of pressure on them to try to keep it up, and they're going to keep coming out and keep playing the same way."

Actually, it's just the opposite, according to Griffin, who said the last month "is the most fun I've ever had playing basketball."

"You don't really think about it that much. We're having a blast," he said about the streak. "It's not like it's one of these things where it's so much pressure."

Al Jefferson scored 30 points ? one off his season high ? to lead Utah, which fell victim for the third time during the Clippers' streak. The Jazz lost 116-114 on Friday when the Clippers rallied from 19 points down, and they were beaten 105-104 on Dec. 3, both times at home.

"It's frustrating," said Gordon Hayward, who had 16 points. "Knowing that they're a good team and knowing that we're always right there with them, knowing that we need to keep on playing good for 48 minutes."

The Jazz lost their third in a row and seventh in the last nine games.

"We can't make any mistakes against them, especially on their home floor because they make you pay for it," Jefferson said.

Crawford keyed a 10-5 run to open the fourth, highlighted by a 3-pointer and a fast break pull-up jumper that helped the Clippers extend their lead to 89-81. Paul and Griffin didn't join the second unit until 5:55 remained and Utah had closed within four on a basket by Favors.

That was as close as the Jazz got. The Clippers made 9 of 10 free throws down the stretch and their defense held Utah to one field goal in the final 3:38.

"It was a grind-it-out game, nothing pretty about it," Crawford said. "We got us a nice thing going and we got to keep it going."

Los Angeles stretched its lead to 71-59 in the third quarter, when Butler scored 10 of their first 17 points.

From there, the Jazz closed on a 17-8 run to pull to 79-76 going into the fourth. Utah briefly took its first lead since early in the game when Jefferson scored over Lamar Odom, but the Jazz committed two costly turnovers in the final 49 seconds.

Paul got fouled and made both free throws, and then Matt Barnes stole the ball from Jamaal Tinsley and fed Paul on the break. He missed but Crawford was there to tip it in and restore the Clippers' lead.

"We haven't been playing our best basketball the last few games," Utah coach Tyrone Corbin said. "We're playing hard, but we've got to be a little smarter and not make the kind of mistakes we made down the stretch."

The Clippers shot 62 percent en route to a 54-45 halftime lead, with Butler scoring 17 points in the first quarter. Utah led briefly to start the game when Jefferson scored eight of their first 13 points.

NOTES: Los Angeles improved to 11-3 at home. ... The Jazz fell to 6-13 on the road. ... Clippers F Ronny Turiaf says his right elbow is "messed up." He said he hurt it a couple games ago when he felt discomfort while boxing out. ... Odom's ankle is bothering him. ... The Clippers haven't lost since Nov. 26 at home against New Orleans.

Florida's weird, and tragic, news of 2012

Pinellas County Sheriff's Office / Pinellas County Sheriff's Office

Ana Gloria Garcia Gutierrez, 53, was arrested for riding a manatee on Sept. 30.

By NBCMiami.com

In 2012, Florida was a state where a lifeguard got fired for saving a life, a woman got arrested for riding a manatee and a man repeatedly used 911 as a phone sex service.

Think that's weird? It gets worse and more tragic.

In one of the state's most horrifying stories of the year, a man in Miami?stripped a homeless man naked, chewing off most of his face before being fatally shot by police. And it wasn't the only story of its kind. In Manatee County, deputies used multiple Tasers to subdue a naked man who bit off part of another man's arm.

Later in the year a man won a roach-eating contest outside a Deerfield Beach pet store and then dropped dead in front of the store when body parts of the dozens of roaches he swallowed blocked his airway.

Read more news on NBCMiami.com

"We tend to be a magnet from every direction for all kinds of sketchery," said Billy Corben, a documentary film director whose works include "Cocaine Cowboys" about Miami's cocaine wars in the 1980s. "It's very late in the game where we go, 'That dude? I guess he seemed kind of weird.'"

Corben, whose "The Billy Pulpit" website compiles weird Florida news, said Floridians tend to show up in high numbers on "The Jerry Springer Show" and "America's Most Wanted." And odd stories elsewhere always seem to have a Florida tie ? like former CIA director David Petraeus's extramarital affair being exposed through a Tampa socialite.

And when anti-virus software founder John McAfee ran from Belizean authorities who wanted to question him about the slaying of a neighbor, he wound up in Miami Beach, where he shopped, ate sushi and posed for photos with tourists.

"The state seems to either passively or directly endorse all of this lunacy in some way or another," Corben said.

Then again, this is the state where Gov. Rick Scott mistakenly gave the media a phone sex number to promote a meningitis hot line. After a broadcaster posted it, at least one caller was greeted with a recording of "Hello boys..." from a lusty sounding lady.

Several gaffes involved hunting Floridians.

There were the two guys in Santa Rosa County who used a bow and arrow to kill a neighbor's pet turkey, which they planned to eat on Thanksgiving. Then there was a Flagler County man who shot his girlfriend in the legs because he thought she was a wild hog.

A mother and daughter were sentenced to two months in jail for using two dogs to kill a farm-raised pig in their backyard. They posted video of the attack on Facebook, which led to their arrest.

Ah, Facebook! It caused trouble for several other Floridians.?A Sarasota County man was kicked off a jury after a judge learned he sent the defendant a Facebook friend request. The juror further infuriated the judge with a Facebook post bragging about getting dismissed from jury duty. He was given three days in jail.

A Manatee County music teacher was issued a verbal warning for a Facebook conversation in which she described an 8-year-old student as the "evolutionary link between orangutans and humans." A high school science teacher also had some explaining to do when she put a cone-shaped dog collar on at least eight students and the "cone of shame" photos appeared on Facebook.

Those weren't the only strange events in Florida schools.?A Plant City teacher was charged with trying to hire a hit man to kill another teacher he suspected was spreading rumors about him.

And a man showed up at his kindergartener's school to retrieve a bag of marijuana and a scale he left in the boy's backpack. More evidence that pot affects short-term memory? An 18-year-old Tampa woman was charged with DUI and marijuana possession three times in less than three weeks, the last two times on back-to-back days.

Bunnell police charged a man with riding a horse while intoxicated after he led officers on a half-hour chase, while a 52-year-old St. Petersburg woman was arrested after police found photos of her riding a manatee.

Floridians also showed that they'll steal just about anything. An Ocala woman told police thieves stole her Thanksgiving turkey from a freezer in her garage; a man was charged in Lakeland after police said he stole two swan eggs from a nest and cooked them; about 150,000 baby clams were reported stolen in Lee County; and a Miami-Dade man had 500 canaries stolen from his home.

Perhaps the oddest was a Reddick woman who drove home to find someone stole her driveway, carting away 300 square feet of brick pavers.

And it's not as if Florida authorities don't take theft seriously. A judge in Ocala sentenced a homeless man to 180 days in jail and fined him $500 for stealing $2 worth of candy.

Then there was the guy accused of selling methamphetamine in Polk County who swiped the recorder with his confession and flushed it down a toilet. The suspect told the detective, "Tighten up on your job, homie."

Even more embarrassing, a Broward County deputy was fired for repeatedly visiting strip clubs while he was on duty and wearing his uniform, sometimes skipping official calls. A West Palm Beach strip-club owner unsuccessfully sued a competing club to block the appearance of Nadya Suleman, claiming the woman best known as "Octomom" agreed to strip at his club first.

Speaking of celebrities and sex, former pro wrestler Hulk Hogan sued a DJ named Bubba the Love Sponge Clem over a secret tape of Hogan having sex with Clem's wife.

While not quite sex on tape, 911 audio recordings were released of a Tampa man who repeatedly called the emergency line and asked the operator to come over for sex.

Florida's unique wildlife always finds a way into the news. An airboat captain near Everglades City was showing an Indiana family how to feed alligators when a 9-footer bit his left hand off. Authorities later charged him with illegally feeding an alligator.

A man strolling along Pompano Beach found a giant blue eyeball and turned it over to authorities. Wildlife officials said it likely came from a swordfish.

On another South Florida beach, a lifeguard was fired for helping save a man from drowning. It turns out the man he saved was just outside the area that Hallandale Beach hired a private company to protect. The company said it was at risk once the lifeguard crossed the boundary.

In miscellaneous Florida weirdness:

? A man who won an auction for the contents of a Pensacola storage unit discovered it contained dozens of preserved human brains, hearts, lungs and other organs that had been collected by a former medical examiner.

? A man looking to repay a $400 debt took a taxi to a Jacksonville bank, robbed it and took the taxi back to his apartment. When police found him, he had changed into women's clothes.

? An 18-month-old girl was pulled off a flight in Miami because the airline thought she was on the U.S. no-fly list of suspected terrorists.

? Police in Holly Hill said a man fatally shot his roommate during an argument over how to prepare pork chops, while St. Petersburg police say a man killed his roommate over a missing corn dog.

??And finally, in what will go down in the first date from hell hall of fame, a Boca Raton police say a 35-year-old woman attacked a man with a knife and smashed his windows after he refused to say they were boyfriend and girlfriend at the end of their first date.

Q&A WITH The Mayor, on Year One

?

Malden?s inaugurated its first new mayor in 16 years when former Ward One City Councillor Gary Christenson took the oath of office on Jan. 2, 2012. The Observer recently caught up with Christenson to discuss how things went in year one, and ask about what?s on tap for 2013?

?

Q In January, you'll mark one year since being inaugurated. How would you describe your first year in office?

?

A. It?s been non-stop from day one. Some caution me to slow down, but I live by the adage that what you put in is what you get out.

I am working as hard as I can on a daily basis to help our community achieve success because that?s what our residents expect and deserve. I find that by being out in the community I am able to actually meet our residents and business owners whose ideas and suggestions provide a valuable resource in improving services.

All in all, it?s been a great first year and I am honored to have the opportunity to serve this community.

?

Q What are your favorite accomplishments from the first year?

A Our enhanced means of communicating directly with the community is one of my favorite and proudest accomplishments. From Facebook to Twitter to Online Forums, these outlets encourage community participation and allow residents the ability to interact with us more easily.

I am also proud of the opportunities and resources we have provided our youth. The Mayor?s Summer Jobs for Teens program tripled the number of youth served last summer and I was delighted to be at the recent ribbon cutting of the Malden Teen Enrichment Center. Our teens now have a safe place to do their homework and learn new life skills.

I was also honored to assist with the Macdonald Stadium renovation and the development of our Bike to the Sea path.

Additionally, from a city financial perspective, I found it very rewarding to be able to increase the residential tax exemption from 20 to 30 percent and adopt a policy that will require the city to keep 7.5 percent worth of reserves in place, which will improve the city?s long-term financial standing.

?

Q How about the greatest challenges?

A Without a doubt, crime prevention has been the biggest challenge. I remember each incident like it was yesterday but on a positive note, I remember the response of our police officers. They are working hard and while we continue to rebuild the ranks, I believe some of the short-term strategies-- like meeting with the Middlesex District Attorney?s Office on a monthly basis to track some of our more problematic individuals-- and working to bring in an organization like Roca, Inc. to deliver high-risk intervention services will help in the interim.

Of course, some of these initiatives cost money and that also continues to be a challenge for Malden. Just this month, the state imposed mid-year cuts and with the looming fiscal problems at the federal level, budget concerns will remain a great test moving forward.

?

Q What do you anticipate being your top priorities in 2013?

A Moving City Hall, reconnecting Pleasant Street, and redeveloping the current Government Center site to connect the MBTA with our downtown.

?To address the challenges outlined above, the City will need to generate more revenue and development of this parcel and the enhancement of our downtown economy is the way to accomplish that goal.

?Replacing the current National Grid site with a 6,500 baseball park is another means to support that goal.

Along those lines, another important priority will be to relocate Public Works and consolidate some of our other departments to provide one-stop shopping for our customers.

?I look forward to seeing recommendations from the groups of residents reviewing PAYT and Walkability that can be implemented in the New Year. The adoption of a Capital Improvement Program will be an important item for the City. Street and sidewalk improvements along with technology initiatives will be a featured part of our proposal to the City Council in early 2013.

In regards to technology, we will be introducing a new way for residents and businesses to submit their service requests to the city. In March 2013, modeling the City of Boston?s successful Citizens Connect Smartphone application, Malden will be adopting and expanding the use of this function. As an example, if a resident sees graffiti on the street they can simply take a picture using their Smartphone and with one click the request will be automatically sent to the Department of Public Works. Once the graffiti is removed, the resident will be notified on their Smartphone that the issue has been resolved. Being fiscally prudent to address the ongoing budget issues at the state and federal levels will also be a major priority.

?

Q Anything else you'd like to add?

?

A As I mentioned above, I am truly honored to play an important role in Malden?s future and I look forward to working with the entire community to add to Malden?s Strong Past and Proud Future. In the meantime, I would like to wish everyone a safe and wonderful holiday season.

?

Lawmakers try to curb anonymous political donations in California

SACRAMENTO ? State lawmakers are moving to curb anonymous political donations in California after a national election in which nonprofit groups secretly poured hundreds of millions of dollars into campaigns.

Legislators have proposed greater disclosure by donors, higher fines for violations and new powers for officials to investigate suspicious contributions to certain groups. Other measures would boost disclosure requirements for political advertising and campaign websites.

The moves were prompted largely by an Arizona group's $11-million donation this year to a California campaign committee, which used the money to oppose Gov. Jerry Brown's tax-hike measure and support another ballot initiative that was intended to curb unions' political fundraising.

State election officials sued the Arizona group to determine the identities of the contributors ? only to discover that the money had come from two other nonprofits, which under federal law are not required to reveal their donors. State law requires groups to identify only donors who gave money specifically for political purposes.

Ann Ravel, chairwoman of the Fair Political Practices Commission, said new legislation is necessary to update the Political Reform Act, the Watergate-era law that governs campaign finance in the state.

Amendments to the 1974 law require a two-thirds vote. It is unclear whether California Democrats, who now wield historic supermajorities in both houses of the Legislature, will use their newfound powers to make the proposed changes.

State Sens. Leland Yee (D-San Francisco) and Ted Lieu (D-Torrance) have introduced legislation, SB 3, to close the state loophole for nonprofits. Their bill would require nonprofits that give at least $100,000 to a political campaign over the course of a year to release the names of the donors behind the contribution.

"Laundering money through nonprofits in an attempt to avoid transparency is fundamentally undemocratic," Yee said. "Our democracy should not be bought and sold in shady backroom deals."

The rise of so-called dark money is a byproduct of the U.S. Supreme Court's 2010 ruling in Citizens United vs. Federal Election Commission, which lifted the ban on direct political expenditures by corporations. That triggered a surge of election activity by groups incorporated under the tax code's section 501(c)4 as social welfare organizations, which are allowed to engage in issue advocacy.

Advocates for more campaign finance reporting said they have been pushing lawmakers for years to tighten California's disclosure rules, which are already among the strongest in the nation.

"It took $11 million to get their attention," said Phillip Ung, a policy advocate at Common Cause, which filed the original complaint about the Arizona donation. "Campaign strategists are constantly adapting their strategies to sneak as much money into campaigns from secret donors as possible, and the law needs to keep up with those strategists."

Assemblyman Roger Dickinson (D-Sacramento) has legislation, AB 45, to prevent what he called last-minute "money bombs" in elections. It would require nonprofits participating in a political campaign to identify any donors giving at least $50,000 six months before an election.

"This is the kind of information voters and the public need to have before they cast their votes," Dickinson said.

The bill would also empower the state's political watchdog to seek injunctions against nonprofits to compel disclosure.

Other proposals target political advertising.

State Sens. Mark Leno (D-San Francisco) and Jerry Hill (D-San Mateo) have introduced SB 52, which would require the top three funders of political ads to be identified in the spots and on the campaign's website.

Another bill, SB 26 by state Sen. Louis Correa (D-Santa Ana), would increase the size of the disclosure notice on slate mailers, which are paid advertisements for candidates and ballot measures, telling voters who prepared and promoted the fliers.

How To Recover Deleted Photos: Software Is The Key Ingredient For ...

Taking photographs is actually a pastime or perhaps an activity that has taken the attention of untold numbers of people around the globe. While many individuals learn photography and invest in training courses and instruments, intending to use them commercially for a lucrative career of taking photos, others additionally realized to be specific in their personal choice of cameras and would enroll in a number of instructional classes and seminars for them to take even better pictures of special events and certain subjects-even when they only wish to have fun with their photographs for their own use and share them with friends on the internet or in photo albums.

With the huge number of folks bringing along with them cameras in birthday celebrations, concerts, family vacation trips, or maybe even during a regular walk in the park or perhaps a quiet dinner with their husband or wife at a brand-new restaurant, it is typically expected that dozens or many hundreds of pictures are kept in the camera's memory card and also in phones, computers, and other devices. Instead of promptly looking through the images, choosing which ones to keep and which to get rid of, and printing the selected photos immediately after the event, it is more likely that a person would leave the image files un-tampered with in the camera or electronic device for a long time, with new photographs being added with every single new photo opportunity that comes up. There's a serious chance that a photo could become deleted, and without any actual physical printout, the photo of an unforgettable event may be gone forever. It's important to be aware of a way to recover deleted photos and prevent the loss of irreplaceable memories from happening.

Photography lovers will be delighted to find out that they may make use of available innovative software program to retrieve deleted photos easily. Deleted photos in data formats such as TIFF, JPEG, CRW, BMP, RAW, and NEF, deleted movie and music in MPEG, AVI, MOV, and WAV filetypes, and deleted images from reformatted memory cards, cameras, USB memory sticks, SD cards, PC disk drives can all be very easily recovered by means of exceptional software designed especially for this objective.

As a way for this software to function more effectively and to increase the likelihood of retrieving an unintentionally deleted image file, the most important thing to do is to actually refrain from storing any more new photo files onto the memory card or device. Deleted files still retain a small amount of data which may be utilized to recover the file, but this data will disappear if new data gets written over it. Taking more new photos using the same device or closing and opening applications and web surfing on a computer will cause disk activity which increases the risk of losing the data permanently.

AP photo essay: Ex-Soviet immigrants change Israel

(AP) ? In parts of Israel, it's hard to find a single Hebrew sign in a sea of Cyrillic. Shopkeepers address customers in Russian, and groceries are amply stocked with non-kosher pork, red caviar and rows of vodka. Russian pop beats thump at bars, and in some homes, people will as likely be hunched over a chessboard as a computer keyboard.

The Soviet Union crumbled 20 years ago, and in the aftermath, more than 1 million of its citizens took advantage of Jewish roots to flee that vast territory for the sliver of land along the Mediterranean that is the Jewish state. By virtue of their sheer numbers in a country of 8 million people and their tenacity in clinging to elements of their old way of life, these immigrants have transformed Israel.

Israel has the world's third-largest Russian-speaking community outside the former Soviet Union, after the U.S. and Germany. Russian-speaking emigres may not conjure up the same recognition as the country's black-hatted Orthodox Jews or gun-toting soldiers, but they are just as ubiquitous ? maintaining habits more suited to the "old country" than their adopted Mideast homeland, like wild mushroom foraging or winter dips in the Mediterranean, the closest substitute to frigid Siberian waters.

Today, Russian-speaking emigres and their children occupy virtually every corner of Israeli society, from academia and technology to the military and politics. A political party formed by Israel's recently resigned foreign minister to cater to Russian-speaking immigrants like him has grown from a marginal force in politics to one of its major powers.

The Russian-speaking community also wields an outsized influence in other aspects of Israeli life. Every fourth employee in Israel's flourishing high-tech industry is a Russian-speaking immigrant, as is every other engineer. The world's second-ranked chess master, Belarus-born Boris Gelfand, lives in Israel, and about a quarter of Israel's Olympic coaches grew up in the former Soviet Union.

Not all newcomers found work in their professions. Many artists became janitors or teachers. One Moldovan trapeze artist now operates a crane.

"I love the circus very, very much, but my work is like the circus," said Irena Zagoruyko, speaking by cellphone atop a 56-meter (185-foot) crane.

While the wave of immigration from the former Soviet Union is widely regarded as successful, there were also frictions.

Religion is a sensitive subject. Many immigrants have tenuous Jewish lineage or none at all.

There is also a certain disdain on both sides, with some immigrants saying they brought talent to a cultural backwater, and some Israelis saying the Russian-speaking immigrants brought prostitution, corruption and crime.

To some degree, many Russian speakers have insulated themselves from the broader Israeli society with Russian bookshops, Russian restaurants, Russian television and Russian newspapers.

And they never forget the beloved Chekhov and Dostoyevsky of their motherland.

"That's why Soviet immigrants never connected to Israeli society all the way," says Roman Bronfman, a former Israeli lawmaker born in today's Ukraine. "They felt they were connected to one of the most glorious cultures in the world."

There is great potential for consumers to conserve water by changing their behavior. Below is a list of options to consider replacing plumbing fixtures. Many of these items can provide abundant energy efficiency, and then, achieving maximum cost savings.

Toilets: toilets consume about 30 per cent of households of the water used. Since 1992, the use of new latrines maximum of 1.6 gallons each flow, but many of the old toilets are still in the process by using double the amount of water.

Dual-flush toilets, which the user selects a full ? or half ? flush, initially developed in Australia in 1980 and is now available in the United States from many manufacturers.

Composting toilets use little or no water, but instead rely on aerobic decomposition. And plumbing pipes and free from the septic tank. Care and maintenance required for a composting toilet working properly, requires a committed owner. Although it has been installed more than 20,000 composting toilets in the United States, not all regulators are ready to composting toilets ? check with the building and health departments of local environmental laws.

Urinals without water: use standard urinals from 1 to 3 gallons per flush. Urinals without water no water supply, but instead use a chemical trap waste that allow the flow down the drain without allowing sewage escape Jacis.

Shower: shower consumes about 22 per cent of the average Home water use.

Identifying low-flow water conservation shower heads.
Determine the shower with valve closure to allow the user to turn off the water while hurt and restarted without the need to re-adjust the temperature of the water.

Faucets: kitchen and bathroom sink faucets account about 15 percent of indoor water use. Newer faucets may not exceed 2.2 gallons per minute (gpm) at 60 psi or 2.5 gpm at 80 lb / square inch, but the oldest faucets can operate on gpm 3 to 7.

Water Heaters: Consideration of hot water heaters (Tankless) upon request; This can eliminate the need to run the water until it reaches the hot water tap. They may also save energy by heating water only when needed.

Maintenance: when renovation or remodeling, take the opportunity to replace toilets made before 1992, and repair leaks in all the games to stay. Leaks can be added up to tens of thousands of gallons of water wasted each year.

Toilet waste that is running two gallons per minute, while silent leak can waste up to 7,000 gallons each month. Can be found on the silent leaks by adding food coloring to the toilet tank and return in 10 minutes take a look at the toilet. If the food coloring has found its way to the bowl, there is a slow leak requiring new flapper valve or other maintenance. (Clear to clear the food coloring to prevent staining).
Faucet drips every second wastes 2,700 gallons of water annually. Often replace the washer will stop the leak. Add aerator, which mixes air into the water stream, to existing high flow faucets can also reduce the use of water.
To test for leaks other, stop all water taps, and record water meter reading before leaving the house for two or three hours. Upon his return, you should verify that the owner of the house meter reading. If change, there may be a water leak. In addition to plumbing fixtures, sources of leaks might include evaporative cooling system, water heater or irrigation system.

I heard on my local news last night that a python roundup is scheduled and they will let folks kill the snakes. I could use a vacation and I love killing evasive species that are as harmful as these critters are.

That thing was as thick as the mans leg that was dragging it. I saw on the news a few weeks ago there was one caught there over 150lbs. It was over 12' long and scientists were disecting it on this table and had dozens of eggs in it. I dont think snake boots would do much good down there.

Oh hell. only 17' ?. Thats a lil' one. You should see the rock pythons that are interbreeding with the constrictors they have in florida, dwarf 17'. The bad thing is, the rock python has an extremely bad attitude and will attack damn near anything or anybody. now we have to worry about a new super species from their interbreeding.

If I saw something like that in MY picnic area, I don't think I'd be waiting for the Park Rangers to come and shoot it. They can come haul off the carcass and write the report, after I TCB.

UFC 155 picks from Kevin Iole, Maggie Hendricks and Cagereaders like you

UFC 155 is only a day away. It's time for picks from Yahoo! Sports' columnist Kevin Iole, Cagewriter editor Maggie Hendricks, and Cagereaders who posted their picks on Facebook.

Kevin Iole: Junior dos Santos W5 Cain Velasquez -- I can't believe I'm picking against Velasquez. To me, he is in many ways the perfect heavyweight, with great conditioning, great wrestling and tremendous power. But how do we ignore what dos Santos has done? Much was made of Velasquez's knee injury before their first fight, but what isn't as well known is that Junior had a bad leg, too, and couldn't do much. It's going to be a dogfight, but I think Junior finds a way to pull it out.

Maggie Hendricks: Cain Velasquez W5 Junior dos Santos -- Velasquez was injured in his last bout with JDS. With a healthy knee, he'll get to use his wrestling to control and beat on JDS for five rounds.

Cagereaders: Couldn't ask for a better way to end the year than this rematch. This will last longer than the first but not by much. I'm picking Cigano by KO R1. Cain has amazing wrestling and ground and pound. However, I think Junior is the guy that has his number and things won't go as planned for Cain. Velasquez will come out more aggressive than the first fight and that will spell the end. Junior will rock him with some brutal counters causing Cain to shoot in for the take down. Junior will stuff the attempt and finish the fight with an uppercut around 3 minutes into the first. -- Jackson Torres

[Related: Five questions that will be answered at UFC 155]
__

Kevin Iole: Joe Lauzon W3 Jim Miller -- Definitely will be the Fight of the Night in my opinion (is there any other kind of fight for Lauzon?) I don't think Joe will be able to submit Jim, but he is so active and works so hard I think he'll pile up the points to win.

Maggie Hendricks: Joe Lauzon Sub2 Jim Miller -- Lauzon's submission game is tough to beat. He will need to avoid Miller's well-rounded game, but can do it.

Cagereaders: My two favorite 155 pound fighters. When I saw Miller step in for Maynard, my heart sank. I'm going to see one them lose, and it looks to be J-Lau. Miller matches up really well for Lauzon's style. He has power in his punches and solid wrestling, backed up with a serious ground game and outstanding cardio. Joe has a killer instinct and a more dangerous ground game. Still, I like Miller taking this fought by a UD. -- Tom Hogan

--

Kevin Iole: Tim Boetsch W3 Costas Philippou -- Boetsch will grind out a victory by controlling the distance and limiting Philippou's power

Maggie Hendricks: Tim Boetsch W3 Costa Phillippou -- Ditto on what Kevin said. Boetsch won't make it a thrilling fight, but it will be a convincing win.

Cagereaders: Boetsch over Phillipou by 3rd Round TKO -- I think this fight will be back to forth, I have counted out Tim Boetsch in many fights just to be shocked, from the poor decision in the Lombard fight, to the amazing knock out of Okami, I think Phillipou gets the better of him early in the fight, while Boetsch owns the latter part of the fight, this could easily be fight of the night and if it does go decision, it will be close, but I see Phillipou gassing late and Boetsch taking advantage. -- Daniel Ryan

--

Kevin Iole: Alan Belcher TKO2 Yushin Okami -- This outcome would have been unthinkable a year ago, but Belcher improves tremendously each time out and is now one of the world's most complete fighters.

Maggie Hendricks: Alan Belcher W3 Yushin Okami -- With title shot hopes hanging over him, Belcher has good reason to fight a smart game and come out with a win over Okami.

Cagereaders: Yushin Okami will beat Alan Belcher by decision. Okami will go back to what made him successful before his fight with Anderson Silva. He will use his jab and height, keeping Belcher back, then take him down for ground and pound. This will continue for 3 full rounds and Okami will come out with the unanimous decision. -- Marcus Min

__

Kevin Iole: Chris Leben TKO3 Derek Brunson -- This is a big fight for Leben, and I think he knows it. I expect him to eventually catch Brunson with something big that will end it.

Maggie Hendricks: Derek Brunson W3 Chris Leben -- In his first fight after a long layoff, Leben will have a hard time dealing with a wrestler with power like Brunson.

Cagereaders: Derek Brunson should be able to defeat Chris Leben by decision because he has a great wrestling background and Chris Leben may not be in the best shape coming off a 13-month layoff. -- Edgar Diaz

China cracks down on internet anonymity (Wired UK)

Tighter internet controls have been approved in China which will require web users to register their real names with internet service providers.

Xinhua reports that the decision was approved in order to "ensure internet information security, safeguard the lawful rights and interests of citizens, legal entities or other organizations and safeguard national security and social public interests."

The real name policy will also come into play when signing telephone contracts and signing up to services which allow users to post information in the public domain. In conjunction with the government's requirement that service providers report illegal activity and content to officials, the rules could put an end to anonymous discussion and the ability to voice dissent or disagreement online.

Anonymity online has been a major source of contention in China with various measures being introduced over the last twelve months to restrict the ability to post on microblogs and similar sites under the relative protection of a pseudonym.

The Chinese government is keen to point out the benefits of the new system, saying that it will require service providers to increase their protection of customer data and up their levels of transparency as well as decreasing spam messaging. Penalties for businesses violating the policy include license revocation, enforced website closures and bans from the online business arena.

Pay-Per-Click Advertising Plays Key Marketing Role | Business 2 ...

?I want to be on the first page of Google results. What do I need to do?? Google AdWords pay per click benefits

This is what I usually hear from most clients. Most don?t know the complexity of achieving top search engine results, and most are shocked at the level of effort required to rank on key terms. In today?s world, mixing organic search engine optimization and pay-per-click advertising is a great start to achieving a formidable search engine presence. Here?s why:

Control Your Traffic
You want traffic and you want it now. But you have conditions and you are realizing that natural search engine optimization is anything but predicable. Pay-per-click advertising has evolved into something that is increasingly flexible.

Want to your ad to show only at specific hours of the day or in specific geographies? Have an ad that should only show for a limited date range? Do you want to test which ad copy has a higher click-through rate (CTR)? You can achieve this and more with pay-per-click management tools. What?s more, if you are making nice strides in your natural SEO you can easily eliminate or pause those words from your pay-per-click campaign.

Content Is Everything
I?m not the first person to tell you that your site?s content is vital. You may have invested a lot of time in your content development and maybe you properly tagged your pages, but chances are you don?t have enough keyword-rich content throughout your site to achieve top rankings on all of your top keywords.

Enter pay-per-click advertising. Research the keywords that you want to rank on, and with the right budget, your ads appear almost immediately. Keep in mind that the ranking and performance of your ads directly correlates to whether your site strongly supports the keyword, so make sure the pages you drive traffic to are strong.

Social Media Helps But?
Social media and organic SEO have become increasingly intertwined. The more your content is shared, the more credible your content becomes, which results in higher search engine rankings. But this process takes time and is highly dependent on ? you guessed it ? content. So if your social media presence isn?t winning any awards just yet, you should consider investing in a pay-per-click campaign to kick-start your presence.

Traffic At Any Budget
Though pay-per-click advertising is getting more expensive over time, there is an opportunity for businesses of all sizes to compete in nearly every industry, even without seven figure marketing budgets. If you are in an industry that is highly competitive, look at bidding on keywords that are less popular but still will drive traffic to your site. To narrow the reach of your ads but potentially enhance click-through quality, change your display targeting options. There are lots of tricks of the trade to allow you to play in the pay-per-click space, even with a small budget.

Ready to improve your search engine presence? Let the experts at ZAG Interactive help develop a plan that?s customized for your business.

The Thrifty Homesteader: Should you give up coffee or tea?

With 2013 just a few days away, some people are probably starting to think about resolutions for the new year. I write about food quite a bit, but what you drink can be equally important. If you've been thinking about reducing or eliminating your coffee or tea drinking, you might find today's post helpful.

Coffee?

Various studies have found that coffee drinkers have lower rates of some cancers, heart disease, Altzheimer?s, Parkinson?s, gallstones, diabetes, liver disease, and gout. You may have heard that there is a correlation between drinking coffee and increased risk of some cancers, gastrointestinal diseases, sleep problems, increased cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart disease, anemia, and problems with pregnancy. Why the disparity?

In many cases, the negative side effects were found in people who consumed large amounts of coffee, which simply confirms the admonition that all good things should be consumed in moderation, but it is more complex than that.

?Often people think of coffee just as a vehicle for caffeine. But it's actually a very complex beverage with hundreds and hundreds of different compounds in it. Since coffee contains so many different compounds, drinking coffee can lead to very diverse health outcomes. It can be good for some things and bad for some things, and that's not necessarily flip-flopping or inconsistent,? said Dr. Rob van Dam, Assistant Professor in the Department of Nutrition, Harvard School of Public Health.

Statistically, many people who drink coffee also smoke and are less likely to eat a healthy diet or exercise, so in earlier studies, coffee was often blamed for negative health outcomes that have now been linked to other lifestyle choices. More current studies, such as the one Dr. van Dam conducted with 130,000 volunteers, control for other lifestyle choices when looking at the data. There is still not definitive evidence on whether or not coffee is harmful to an unborn baby whose mother drinks coffee, so pregnant women should limit coffee drinking to one cup a day or less.

Another point to consider when consuming coffee is that the usual process for decaffeinating uses chemicals. There is a decaffeinating process that uses water, but unless the label claims that process has been used, the chemical process was probably the method employed.

Tea?

Although humans have only been drinking coffee for a few hundred years, the history of tea goes back for thousands. Any herb or plant that has been soaked in hot water is called tea, and every one of those plants has different health benefits and risks. Black tea, which comes from the same plant as green, oolong, and white tea, has been used medicinally for millenia.

Today, studies have documented a long list of health benefits from tea drinking, including reduced risk of cancer, diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease, heart disease, and even depression. It also helps the immune system to function better and reduces the body?s production of stress hormones.

Because coffee and black tea must be transported a long distance to reach North America, they are not as ecothrifty as drinking tap water. However, drinking tea and coffee are better for the environment than drinking soft drinks or bottled water because the amount of waste is minimal ? the box or can in which the dry tea or coffee was purchased, which is small compared to the amount of tea or coffee that can be prepared from the dry tea leaves or coffee beans. If you have a habit of buying a cup of coffee or tea at a shop in the morning, you can buy a travel mug and make it at home. If you only want one cup, you can buy a coffeemaker that brews coffee in single servings.

Bottom line

I really don't think there are any magic bullet type of foods that will guarantee you'll live to be a hundred, and conversely, I don't think that any natural foods should be completely eliminated from everyone's diet. If you're drinking a pot or two every day, you might want to cut back, but there isn't any compelling reason to completely eliminate coffee or tea.
